Help! Is this job posting back or front office?
I have searched this forum high and low but still have a problem I need help with. I'll change the details to protect the innocent (even though it's pretty easy to figure out who I'm talking about), but this is a BB who opened an office in a secondary market and is now staffing up their Global Markets. Here's the job description:
"The Role: Teams act as an extension of the trading desks in hubs like London, New York, etc. Depending on your skillset and our business need, you may be placed in one of the following : Debt Capital Markets; Equity Capital Markets; Equity Research; Commodities
The roles employees perform include, but are not limited, to the following:
Analytics - Deal origination support, term sheet preparation, pitch books, research, macro analysis.
Structuring Support - In analytics and pricing using proprietary and external tools.
Trading Support - Analyses and analytical support for special initiatives. Develop financial models for use in evaluating potential investments .
Sales Support - Building quantitative models for sales teams, identifying new market / product opportunities based on regular basis scanning of market / competitor landscape & help trade idea generation.
Risk Modeling - To support trading desks and resolve risk issues. Helping manage the risk on the books– when to execute the trades / monitoring exposures
Research - Series 16 qualified Supervisory Analysts for Markets research reports.
Business Intelligence - Reports on products and businesses for senior Markets management globally."
The reason why I ask if this is back office is because the first 5 roles all mention "support", and though they are in seemingly front office-like areas, the fact that this office is removed from the home office coupled with an onus on support makes me think back office.
Any thoughts?
My vote is back office, it certainly seems like the majority of the descriptions are for back office positions, however that is quite the varied and broad description (many different jobs rolled into one description).
DB in Jacksonville? I think they're mainly hiring MO and BO roles.
Back office.
I wouldn't call this back office, its definately more of a middle office role.
At no point does back office "Develop financial models for use in evaluating potential investments" or "Building quantitative models for sales teams, identifying new market / product opportunities based on regular basis scanning of market / competitor landscape & help trade idea generation." or do a few of the other bullets.
I would assume this is a good opportunity if you are working at the same location as the sales/trading staff, but if it is DB in Jacksonville and there is no exposure to the FO counterparts because they are in NY or London, then you might want to forgo this if FO is your goal.
Well, it took you guys a long time to figure out who this was -- a whole 2 comments.
Seriously though, I know a couple people who went through the process and they still don't know exactly what the role is either -- this thread (//www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/deutsche-bank-jacksonville-anyone-know-w…) is essentially an internet version of our own conversations. I think you guys are right -- not exactly back office stuff, but since it's not where the sales/trading staff are, it can't be front office either. Anyways, thanks for the input -- that's why boards like this are so helpful.
