How enthusiastic is too enthusiastic when networking?
So I'm a sophomore at UC Santa Barbara and I'm trying to network. A lot of people say to include something specific like a deal they worked on but I honestly don't know how "deals" and shit are interesting. Frankly, I don't really know much about stuff so I can't really talk about it. It's like trying to talk about the NBA but you only watch the finals. Like what points should I bring up and how enthusiastic should I be?
If you don't find them interesting, why are you trying to network into the industry in the first place? If it's just the money or "prestige" you'll burn out since you don't find the material enjoyable
Spot on.
Take it easy man, OP is only a soph and most likely doesn't understand what makes a deal interesting vs not. This is exactly what networking is about.
OP, asking people you network with about interesting deals they've worked on is fine, especially as a soph. Then once you start to get a feel for it you'll become much better at researching/discussing this stuff.
