How much is enough?

I am going to be a senior at Santa Clara University and am trying to break into IB in San Francisco after graduation. I was hoping some of you guys who work at banks could give me your opinion on what it takes to get an interview. My main fear right now is not being selected for first round interviews coming from a non-target school with a decent GPA (3.5). My resume is at http://www.mediafire.com/?xsqc1paegea7dps Should I try to get a fall internship since my schedule permits it or will I be alright for me as I am? I am curious for all ranges of banks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you will need to demonstrate a tremendous amount of knowledge in IB and get some training on IB modeling. Your school and curriculum will not make you marketable so you will need to demonstrate your efforts and desire of getting into IB.

Internships will be very important for you because you need something to talk about during interviews and a strong letter of rec.

As for banks, look at MMs and boutiques. Don't bother with BBs, unless you are able to network your ass in.

definitely try and get a fall internship in an IB type role, jack up your IB IQ as much as possible in terms of knowledge and modeling, and networking at any and every bank is important.

get in touch with career services and see how you can work the alumni database

lol take the linkedin website off

also why did you feel the need to disguise your "major European city"

honestly GPA and experiences look decent enough. beware of saying chess is an interest unless you are genuine.

this is probably beating a dead horse but unless you are at Cal, Stanford, USC, or UCLA you are really going to need some networking to get SF banking

I'd say your best bet of getting interviews is networking. Meet people and have them like you. You shouldn't have a problem with getting interviews if they like you. And go for a fall internship if you'd like/have the time. It's definitely less competitive but look for MM/boutique firms that are willing to do it. I know Baird does off-cycle internships.
