I attend UC Santa Cruz

And have a 3.9 GPA majoring in economics. Will it be hard for me to get a job as an ibanker. Will it help that im dashingly handsome (movie star good looks), very charming and personable. Or am I permafuked without an MBA from a top tier university?

These are dick responses, probably done under one of the ridiculous enforcement of the "unwritten" rules that make up WSO "culture."

I don't think you are fucked at all, there are a ton of ibanks in california including BB's. You'll have a shot, you just need to network your ass off.

Here is a bit of motivation so you know you can do it- I am a senior at a state university in the PNW (not the University of Washington) and I just got an offer from a BB for S&T. I have a 3.83 and I am a humanities major.

I also had a final round with another BB without networking in.

Bottomline: Work hard on your resume, write good sincere cover letters, and network as hard as you can (PM if you need some advice of how to go about this). Put out as many possible leads as you can and something will come through if you are smart and work hard.

BELIVE IN YOURSELF...I did and you can too

no, dick answers are because 1) he's being a douche about being handome and 2) "i go to X and have a 3.Y, can i still do ibanking?!?!?!" where X = nontarget and Y > 5 has been asked a million times on this forum.

Well, if you had a chance to eat their cashiers too, you would certainly enjoy them. I am sure chubbybunny can share a good story about his indulgence in fast food cashiers.

YourWorstEnemyYou ate a cashier? Must have been very hungry! At what age did you convert to cannabalism?

you may have just redeemed yourself.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

If I were a VP and found out the firm hired someone from a "UC Santa Cruz," I'd go to the person that hired you and either 1) fire him if I can, or 2) complain for a good 20 minutes about what a hellhole the firm turned into to be scavenging for food in the dumps while all the other firms are eating from the HYPWS buffets.

In case you are unable to understand the message I am trying to send you, OP, yes you are fucked regardless of what MBA you manage to get.

WorstEnemy, note how our buddy starts with "If I were a VP" which he is clearly not and I'm guessing probably never will be.

I actually completely agree with this post. I will probably never become a VP of an investment banking firm, so OP has nothing to worry about.

People like me (ie: baller) get an fast track ticket to private equity. People like OP get a non-express ride to being my CPA.

roymonditoI would've never realized 'ekudfoekud' was 'dukeofduke' spelled backwards, but I guess that's why I don't make the big bucks
I was a bit surprised no one picked up on that sooner, given the proliferation of threads and comments he's made in the past 24 hours that are identical to his earlier ones.
I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Higheck123This thread should have ended the day it started.

So should have your life cowboy. You know where I can get a nice set of chaps? 32x32

Seriously, you have asked a retarded question, and one that has in one form or another been answered hundreds of times on this forum. Really hope you have good looks because you have the personality of a dead horse.

Malakari^You are so fucking cocky and you go to UC Santa Cruz. Most of us worked hard during high school to attend targets/semi-targets. I guess you fucked around too much and went to CC.

True story, never gave a shit about school. I was preoccupied in other activities. Doesn't mean im a retard, I got my shit together and am trying to better my life. I chose UCSC because of the access to good surf, didn't want to be landlocked in bumfuk USA

Blowing your on whistle huh? "dashingly handsome" who the fuck do you think you are? "very charming" Why would someone want to help you in that case? Shouldn't you be able to go about life all on your own?

Im just a guy, a normal one like you, although I may look better I am still human. Internet is not serious business, I am not an abrasive person IRL. Sorry if I offended anyone, jakes on you if you take an internet forum too seriously. I was just contemplating the possibility of breaking into this profession from a less prestigous university.

Just how many people with a 3.9 GPA do you think will be applying to banks from UCSC exactly? You'll quickly learn that, though a massive global industry, Investment Banking is an uncomfortably small community. It's very possible that a number of the people that will be reviewing your resume in the future are reading this post right now. (BTW, If there ARE multiple 3.9s from UCSC, then you're seriously screwing them over right now.)

Is this REALLY the way you want to conduct yourself? I can tell you from first-hand experience that just because something is done or said over the internet, doesn't mean it didn't happen or doesn't affect the "real world."

I honestly feel sorry for people like you

Good luck with your investment banking goals in 2011 and beyond
