I saw Ken Griffin!!!
Holy smokes. So earlier today I walked out of my highrise apartment building in downtown Chicago to get my shoes shined. As I was walking out, a man was behind me, so I just looked over. Much to my utter shock, it was Ken Griffin of Citadel! I did a double-take because I had no fucking idea what he was doing in my building on a weekday afternoon. What business did he have here? Anyways, my brain was going at like 100mph and wondering if I should introduce myself. Ultimately I chose not to since he looked like he was in a super hurry and went right into his black benz with personal chaffeur.
A few friends of mine think I missed a golden opportunity by not speaking to him.
inb4 cool story bro
Honestly though i dont think you missed out by not talking to him, he wouldn't have remembered you in 5 minutes anyway and would probably have been annoyed. I'm sure he gets it all the time.
cool story bro
And now we know Brady4MVP's new account.
I knew he couldn't stay away
"No fucking idea what he was doing in my building on a weekday afternoon?" He was fucking someone in your building. Clearly.
Nah. There's a citadel employee in my building, so my guess is griffin had to pay him a visit to discuss business.
What A Posse Ad Esse said. You should have blackmailed him into giving you a job at Citadel dude.
Shoulda said hi bro, I would have bought you lunch.
epic
Imagine this: "Hi Mr.Griffin, Good to see you!" in the mean time, swiftly put your biz card in his upper pocket. then, "I am really in a hurry, talk to ya next time. have a wonderful day!"
You should have said hi and introduced yourself. Worst case scenario: he tells you to gtfo cause he's on the run. Ideal scenario: you guys swap emails/ numbers and grab coffee or lunch in a few weeks. Perhaps you can send him an email right now.
is this the baseball player?
break in his house --> be watching a game when he comes home --> ask if he has a few minutes to grab coffee (don't demand it; you want to be give him the chance to politely decline) --> network --> land job!
Ken Griffion plays for the bears ?
You had nothing to lose by attempting to talk to him. Life is about choices, and unfortunately you made the wrong choice here.
Ken Griffins is pretty easy to spot in Chicago. He's at most of the Bulls' home games. He and 3-4 other Citadel guys are always courtside opposite the players bench. About 5-7 seats down from mid-court.
As for what he was doing mid-day at your building -- probably firing someone. It's probably the only thing he's better at than making money.
what up
shoudl we try to get Ken for the WSO Conference? Who would be the best speaker for us? Let's aim high.
bondarb or Jack Schwager (his son is aware of WSO).
You should have had the elevator pitch ready to go - pitch yourself in the amount of time it takes to ride an elevator. You'll get it next time dude.
@happy - great call. Michael Lewis would be an awesome guest.
Given the libertarian "leave wall street alone" sentiment, I think a lot of folks would show up with rotten tomatoes if he were speaking.
How about Jamie Diamond? He is in the neighborhood...
is this the guy who won jeopardy 78 times in a row?
Ken Jennings. 74. and the answer to the question was HR Block and they offered to do his taxes for free for life because of it.
I use to watch Jeopardy a lot, parents wouldn't let me apply to teen Jeopardy. Bullshit.
Henry Kravis visited Columbia back in October. I was in the same building and didn't have a clue he was there until the next day. :(
^ Wish I had a SB to offer.
clearly, there is sex involved
