Ivy Transfer?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore at a LAC in NY and have a 3.7+ GPA majoring in economics and computer science. I wanted to find out your opinion about transferring to an Ivy. I know it's extremely competitive but I feel like with the right mindset I can at least shoot for a more IB friendly school. Do I miss the whole recruitment process if I get in as a Junior? I've heard some people add on an extra year when they transfer which helps with recruitment.

Thank you.

Hey monkeytomd, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.

If you could, transfer is the best option. But as you said Ivy Leagues are hard to break in. Probably Cornell takes more transfers. If you succeed, you will probably get admitted March/April next year and you should immediately start networking with a resume with your new school name. You will probably miss some info sessions then, but some banks/groups are late in recruiting and have info session in August/Sept. But overall you will definitely have more chances. If you could not, try to network with other bankers from LAC. I believe there are many bankers from Amherst/Bowdoin/Colgate. They will feel you as a LAC student.

With a 3.7+ you should have a solid chance, especially being in NYC where you can network a lot. Agree with the above, reach out to your school alumni, other LAC alumni, and you can be having coffee chats weekly this spring.

I don't know that it's really worth the effort to transfer to an Ivy, unless you are at a very very non target school.
