I live by exchange place and pay slightly more than Hoboken but my commute to FiDi in the morning is literally 7 minutes (PATH), and I too don't pay city taxes. Its great

Brooklyn. Probably a similar vibe between both places but just stick to NY. Living in jersey will make dating/meet ups hard. No one is going to commute to jersey and wait 20 minutes for the path late night. I grew up super close to Hoboken/JC and I hated Hoboken (if you like basement frat vibes you might like) and found jersey city boring. Also JC waterfront rentals (close to the path) are not cheap anymore… you could always do closer to journal square but that’s a very ugly area (gentrify)
