Phone screens are almost always more casual fit, behavioral conversations. Technicals are rare over the phone because with a non-controlled environment every fuckboy in the world would have notes open, the internet, and maybe even a a friend to help them get through technicals. Just focus on being laid back, know a lot of general stuff and market trends, know your resume and experiences, etc.

I've had two phone screens and can confirm what @taulamep said, they will be finishing up screens this week/early next week and be moving forward from there

I'm having a phone interview this week for JPM Tech IB SF with someone who happens to be an alumna a few years older than I. We both went to an HYP ivy.

Went really well. Guy loved my "why IB, why tech, and why JPM" answer. Also asked for trends in tech I'm following and any subsectors that interest me. That went well too.

Regarding technicals there was a question on the various valuation methods, walk through of a DCF, and a walk through of calculation of WACC.

Lastly he asked one mental math question (what is 17.5% of 24--I guessed and said because 20% is 4.8 I'd say 17.5% is 4.2).

The call ended with him asking me if there were any questions I had for him.

Overall pretty conversational in nature. He asked if I'd seen Dunkirk and what I was planning on doing over the weekend.

I'd say the only area I slipped up was describing my current IB internship transaction experience (it's the only area I hadn't practiced BC I assumed I'd have it down cold).

That's a lot more technical and intense than mine. I go to an HYPS and it was with an alum from my school. We just spent 20 minutes just talking about school and shared extracurriculars and then the office culture for SF (i.e. no face time culture, not tie attire, etc.) Just basic technicals on NWC and calculating cash flows as well as LBO drivers. None of that mental math stuff.

The invite was an email from someone at the office. Did you reach out and request this call?

Have had two phone screens now. Not sure when exactly the timeline to hear back is but probably end of this week or early next.

I still haven't heard. Extremely nervous to be honest. And it doesn't help that these weekends in August are pretty packed with back to school events but would trade those for being flown into SF for a shot and a job.

I have not heard back either, and yes August is pretty jam packed for me as well. I wouldn't worry, I'm pretty positive they haven't notified anybody yet

It's annoying to your interviewer to follow up. The thank you letter you sent right after your interview is all that is necessary.

This is for the SF Tech office, which did phone interviews. Wrong thread.
