Living in Indiana as Chicago analyst?

Hey everyone, going to be an analyst at a BB in Chicago. Part of what drove me to Chicago was lower CoL and proximity to aging parents. That being said, I’d like to save as much as possible for their imminent medical needs. Has anyone who worked in Chicago lived across Indiana state lines to save money on living expenses? Is the commute feasible?

Literally doing this right now. Commute is okay, 35 minutes if I leave at 6:30 am, an hour and ten if I leave between 7 and 9, 45 minutes if I leave after 9.

My advice? Live in South Loop, Chicago. Be close to work and fire drills, and then still be able to visit family ASAP when you can.

Yes, above is best advice. You can find plenty of cheap housing in Chicago -- different areas, get a roommate or two. Being 35-60 minutes away from work your first year, when you're trying to impress seniors, is not worth the 200-400 bucks you might save per month in rent (which will be erased by gas costs and parking -- actually, if you have to park, your savings will probably disappear).
