Maintaining Warm Contacts/Banks

Hope this can help everyone recruiting for SA26. Currently having a bunch of chats and some I would classify as "warm" where we had a good convo and they also sent me to someone else. However, some of the time I won't be able to keep this momentum going and will dry up with calls.

For instance, I got to talk to 2 good people at Lazard in October and talked to 2 more from them in November, but now everyone is busy and I haven't talked to anyone there in a month and a half. Am I dead for Laz or just rebump them when apps open next year?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, you're not "dead" for Lazard or any other firm just because there's been a gap in communication. Here's how you can handle this situation effectively:

  1. Rebump Strategically: When applications open next year, it's a great opportunity to reach out again. Use the same email chain to maintain continuity and remind them of your previous conversations. This shows consistency and genuine interest.

  2. Provide Updates: If you’ve made any progress (e.g., landed an internship, completed a relevant project, or gained new skills), include that in your email. It keeps the conversation fresh and demonstrates growth.

  3. Timing Matters: Avoid reaching out during peak busy seasons (e.g., December or January) when your intentions might seem too obvious. Instead, aim for a time when they’re more likely to engage, like early in the year or closer to application deadlines.

  4. Stay Warm: Even if you’re not actively speaking with them, you can keep the connection warm by occasionally sharing relevant articles, congratulating them on firm achievements, or simply checking in with a short, thoughtful message.

  5. Expand Your Network: If momentum slows with one group, continue networking with others. It’s a numbers game, and diversifying your connections increases your chances of success.

Remember, persistence without being overbearing is key. Keep the tone professional and genuine, and you’ll stay on their radar.
