Moelis: Technology and Industrials Groups

How are the Technology and Industrials teams at Moelis? I only was able to find short or outdated comments about both teams. How is the culture, hours, and exit opportunities for both groups? Thanks!

These both have active analyst postings - the issue with networking when these come out is that bankers get bombarded with these. Not to discourage (this is the battle you are facing at every bank right now), but to give you a sense we got over 500+ resumes in the first weekend these were posted (at least for one of them) given the flood of layoffs, slowdowns in hiring, etc.

Tech team has grown rapidly in the last year driven by the SVB "acquisition". There are probably ~90 bankers (~30 analysts) in the US now (probably 50-60 of which are from SVB or hired to help support the MD growth). Historically the whole group was essentially based in SF (and some BOS) and that remains the case still but the NY office team has expanded significantly post SVB.

Industrials is mostly all based out of NY, probably 30-40 bankers (~10 analysts) total focused on metals & mining, capital goods, building products, chemicals, and aerospace & defense.

Honestly it is hard to generalize hours (and even "culture") in each group because it is so dependent on what MDs/subsectors you are working in, what deals you are working on, etc. Exit ops (at least in NY) are generally pretty consistent across groups. The bank name won't hold you back, you'll get interviews at MFs, UMMs, HF, etc. = really is on the individual to convert

The overwhelming sense I am getting is that this is for experienced analyst, but are you considering FT laterals ie graduating seniors or know how if you will ?

I have one on Friday for tech are you interviewing with an associate?
