Morgan Stanley Facility in Purchase, NY? (west chester)

I recently received an offer to join the Morgan Stanley HQ in Purchase, NY - West Chester County NY. I was wondering if anyone was from there/been there and had an opinion on the facility... +/-, size, quality, etc etc. Any information would be very helpful and much appreciated! Thanks.

I am a master degree holder in industry engineering and working in logistics now. Just out of curisority, I am wondering, if I want a future job in I-Banking, whether I should choose to pursue a degree in financial engineering or get a MBA degree? Appericate your remarks.

I have a friend who worked at Morgan over the summer and he said that facility is very nice (modern, great gym), but it's in Purchase! Which is like 1-1.5 hours away from NYC (including the shuttle bus from the train station in Purchase to Morgan's facility). If you have any comparable offers in NYC, I would take that instead. What is the position?

jgsim, you wouldn't happen to know how often the shuttle bus runs and if it goes directly to morgan would you? i live in the city and i was trying to decide if i want to commute everyday or get a lease out there for the summer. without a car i don't know how people function in the suburbs...

The position is within Fixed Income. Did he commute from NYC? I live in Northern NJ so I was thinking of commuting. Anything else about the facility? I played basketball in college I was wondering if they had anything other than the gym.. and any other information would be very helpful. I will probably go visit sometime in Febuary..

You need to go through Morgan Stanley's Fixed Income recruiting process, then during the desk preference process, list each desk that is in the Westchester office.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

What area of fixed income? If this in commodities or municipals, or in their retail fixed income divison?

He was just there for a day actually (to visit and see the facility). He was based out of the NYC office.

Not sure how easy it is to hop from capital markets to IB front office, would be curious as to what others have to say. I believe MS' entire commodities trading is in Purchase, so that's an option, but I'm in PWM and I know I don't interact with many/any commodities traders, it's not a huge part of PWM as a whole, so those guys are more institutional.

I think the question is less based on location, and more a question of: can you transition from capital markets to IB? I'm thinking that even if you're in capital markets on the retail side, you still interact with institutional guys, so it may be easier to transition to institutional capital markets, S&T, stuff like that.

Have to admit this is a very strange question--smile

Was there a couple yrs bak. It is the old Texaco building built in the late 70's ,I believe. Located on some 100 acreas, with lots of paking lots.

New lobby, new cafeteria, executive dining, tv room and a fitness center. Only remember seeing standard equipment. No climbing wall that is bid in other places, no basketball that I saw. Maybe there were hand ball or squash courts-really can't remember.

The building is also famous for state of the art air-conditioning system--largest air cooled by ice.

MS shares the facility with another firm- at least when I was there.

Nothing really spectacular. Think it is like three or four stories high.

Maybe there are hoops outside, really don't know.

You should call them if you live so close by and ask for visitors pass pending future employment.

Hope that helps a little.

It's a great facility with mainly fixed income trading (retail and institutional). Commute from NYC is about 40min (express) and 50min (local). The time is only from grand central to purchase train stop...so add more time for nyc subway and car ride from train stop to MS (5-10 min).

Thanks, I wonder what the commute is from Northern NJ at rush hour and morning hour. Hopefully it has a nice gym and some hoops. We will see. Thanks!
