Need help on location
My partner will have to commute to work out of the city from grand central. We are trying to figure out where we should live in NYC when I start my analyst stint. I will be working in the financial district (the world financial center area). My partner might get a job in the city after a couple of months but might not, as well, depending on how the commute and job options turn out to be like.
So questions: 1. Will it suck for me to travel from the grand central area to my job? 2. What neighborhoods should we consider, with factors being proximity to GC, safety and price in roughly that rank order?
Considering the work hours, If you all tell us that it would really stink for me to travel from that area to work each morning, we could end up opting to live downtown, so your input is very important!

Although there is a large quantity of nerds in finance, you won't be the only one with a girlfriend, lol.

going from GC to fidi isn't bad, but when you add up the numbers of the commute, it quickly becomes 30-40 minutes.... maybe more depending on where you're commuting from.

Sorry man, I don't live in NYC. Hopefully someone will post some suggestions for you. If not, just find a subway map and a NYC map that lists the different areas and match them up. It's much more of a pain than getting suggestions from some fellow primates but it can give you an idea of where to start.
