Not allowed to do onsite internships due to Corona virus

Hello, everybody. Been recruiting for internships this summer (interviews, etc.) However, with the recent corona virus outbreak my parents are saying that I should stay at home over the summer. This eliminates the possibility of a real summer job as well. Obviously I don't want to sit around all summer doing nothing. I started looking at online/remote internships but when I take a further look at the company it is some scam shop run by 1-2 scam artists. Are there any legit online/remote internships that you all are aware of? Willing to do unpaid as well if that's what it takes.

You're an adult, get an internship and pay for your own apartment. Online internships are usually a scam, or at minimum not that intense

If your parents are older immunocompromised, not wanting you to come in/out of the house daily is a fair ask, but you should look at options that don't involve living at home

Your parents are out of line... obviously they are trying to look out for you, but what they aren’t considering are the future implications this could have on your career. Apply for internships and find a way to pay for your living while you’re there.

My parents have a lot more leverage because uni I attend was at my home town so I ended up staying with parents (dorms are quite expensive and didn’t get aid for living expenses ). In short I’ve never actually lived in my own before.

I’m my parents only son so a probabilistic argument isn’t going to work.

I’m sure you get the idea by now, but definitely do not take a remote/online internship. If you have any desire to work at a reputable firm, and online internship will not help you (unless you’re a 1st year undergrad, that summer never matters much tbh)

Totally understand if you feel the need to appease your parents because of your living situation, but at some point you need to take control of your own life and do what’s best for you ( ie. a real internship) this probably isn’t the first time your parents have pressured you into a decision (and prob won’t be the last)

The issue here is that I have a disability. Not so severe that I"d have to live at home forever but bad enough that I'd need to get set up in a new location to start my life if you know what I mean. I can't just do things spontaneously that easily.

Well for one you need to grow up and tell your parents what's really good. And two, you do NOT want to take an online/remote internship. Truthfully speaking, I've never heard of an online internship anyways, so it won't look good if you expect to recruit FT next year.

But it goes back to what I initially said, you need to grow up. You shouldn't be living with your parents anyways (granted I don't know your financial situation), but there is a point in life where you need to think and act on your own. And I think that time is now.

I'm actually a sophomore so won't be recruiting for FT next year. I think the main issue is that the internships I have been recruiting for are customer facing. I am looking for onsite internships that are more "back office" type work now, which I think will be a good compromise.

He or She can't get an apartment because he/she isn't financially independent. You just can't leave your home and tell your parents I don't want to live with you without no income or incoming cash flows.

"It's okay, I'll see you on the other side"

I mean, you can. I did. Get a part time job to get off-campus or on-campus housing with lots of roommates. Pay for housing with your internship money which in IB is significant.

You just have to hit a breaking point where you value your freedom.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
