Please take a peek at my resume - I'm a senior state school monkey

I'm a senior finance major graduating in May from a large Midwest state school.

Please take a peek at my resume and let me know what you think.

I'm ready for any feedback; whether it be good or you rip me apart.

Thanks in advance.

stateschoolmonkeyWow that sucked, give me a minute and I'll repost.

jack_donaghyChange the dates to just years(ex. Analyst..... 2010-current). Do you have anything extraordinary to add that stands out? I set a world record like 8 years ago and I am asked about it 100% of the time that I submit my resume, even when they're clearly not interested in hiring me.

I've never seen the date removal before... I'm guessing this might be more relevant for positions I have had for a long time (Ex. Lawn Care)?

I can't think of anything extraordinary at the moment and I haven't set any world records. Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else have any ideas or feedback?

Lol...what did you set a world record for if you don't mind me asking?

  • you didnt make 3,000 calls
  • format your interest section into bullets and split into "interests" and "volunteer work"
  • in the volunteer work section elaborate on your 2 experiences.
  • remove the horseshit bullet point about how you engaged in arbitrage for your lawn mower company. If you even mentioned the word "arbitrage" in your resume, as an interviewer I would expect that you have an in-depth knowledge of the subject and thus grill you on it.
Here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, you are the sucker.

I can assure you I did make 3,000 calls. Unfortunately some days that was all I did. Generally, I could make about 80-100 calls in a day. The vast majority of these calls would result in leaving voicemails though.

Regarding elaborating on volunteer work, I don't want to break into a second page and feel the info above is more valuable. Do you think it is not?

Don't like the arbitrage? I honestly would have no problem talking about this. Since I was familiar with all the equipment when I started things, I knew the value of it all. It was honestly the easiest money I've ever made. People would be selling mowers for practically nothing as many people jumped into the business and within a couple months get out. These people would also not even clean the machine up, change the oil, filters, etc. Obviously there is no prestige in the lawn industry, but I would think making money this way would be appreciated by those that review resumes. Or am I just crazy?

Its an awesome story man, and I think that people would definitely appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit, but I would just be careful with the verbage because ANYTHING that you put on your resume especially something like arbitrage is fair game. In one of my first FT interviews I had put down on my resume "completed Summer Analyst training modules on DCF, EVA and Dupont modeling". I knew DCF and EVA but I had breezed through the dupont modeling course and my interviewer absolutely raped me on it. I think you might get some skeptics because arbitrage is a concept applied to financial instruments but just my two cents. I PMed you a PDF of a bunch of action verbs that are really helpful when constructing a resume, maybe look to replace it with one of those.

Thanks for the insight. I got your PM as well, it's good stuff!
