Practicing financial modelling skills Excel

Hi all,

I was wondering whether you know about some resources that provide some spreadsheets (DCF models, lbo models etc) or something similar that I can play around with and improve my modelling skills?

I'm aware of the fact that WSO/WSP offer full packages of this, but I don't need an entire course pack, I just want to play with it a bit.

Thanks!

yeah, sorry about that, no way to really prevent them from getting bumped easily. You will also see a lot of dupe title threads getting fixed over the next ~3-4 days which will also be annoying, but done by the end of the weekend (so again, temporary). That being said, the financial modeling ones are done for now...

We are in the midst of a MASSIVE site/content audit. We have embarked on an insane merging & purging effort to reduce dupes or near dupes without losing a lot of the valuable comments of our users over the past 10 years.

It's like reviewing all 200,000 discussions and manually tagging ones to be combined...or getting rid of ones that aren't helpful. You should not envy my life right now (even with the automated tools to merge the nodes, actually reviewing them is another story).

Do you know how many "tell me a joke" interview threads there were? :-) in case you're curious: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/interview-questions-tell-me-a-joke (at least now they are in one place)

So yeah, sorry about all the shit hitting the recent tab...it will be mostly over by Sunday.

Thanks, Patrick

Pepin,

I work at a MM PE shop (straight from undergrad) and our analyst training program was pretty much non-existant as we were expected to learn everything from our mentors/experienced hires.  There is no better way to learn modeling than actually building a model.  Assuming you have an understanding of accounting (I did not prior to beginning my job) you should be able to link all of the financial statements and build a very basic model.  From there you will just incorporate an assumptions page and calculate your IRR and sensitivity tables.

I would recommend the following materials (as I always do on these boards) if you are at the beginning stages of your IB/PE career and as desktop materials moving forward:  ScoopBooks: Practicitioner's Guide to IB and M&A, Investment Valuation (Damodaran), and TTS (training the street).

Good luck.
