Promotion VS. 2nd round interview question
So i am currently in a FIG group at a large bank in NYC (more of a corporate banking role) I am a first year analyst. The loan desk falls within my group as well (jumbo overnight loans into the billions) My group head asked me if I would be willing to accept a promotion and take over the loan desk in addition to my current role as one of the two guys who handle the desk is leaving (they would cut out all the housekeeping stuff analysts do and just keep me on the big deals to give me time on the desk, I am already working on these big deals; I am by far the best analyst we have and I have worked on all the high-profile deals we completed since I started-most without any associate or VP just my MD and myself) BUT I recently (last week) had a phone interview with a VP from an IBD product group (not M&A) at a better bank, something that I am very interested in, much more so then my current gig. Though i beleive the loan desk skills would be a benefit. We didn't cover this promotion on the phone interview because it just happened. I haven't heard from him either, should i email him? if so, what should i say? I was offered a promotion but i would really like to explore the position before I commit?
Thanks
Accept the position and continue to explore the other option. And then leverage the position against the new option for more money etc.
Handling a desk basically by yourself and showing those leadership skills would be quite impressive and set you apart, plus provide for a killer reference.
Well, I did accept the position- I basically want to follow-up with the interviewer and let him know that this was offered to me, maybe it will help me move to the next round.Looking for the best way to do this.
Make sure you express how interested you are in the firm/position of the new Bank, and you picture it as the best situation for you going forward in your career. I think that is important because the new bank might see your recent promotion as a major reason why they won't be able to get you.
I feel like this link from earlier might help in positioning your self going forward in the interview process
