Putting Religious Group Leadership Role on Résumé

Should I put my leadership role for the on-campus religious group I'm a part of? It's a Protestant group, but at the same time it is inclusive and welcoming of the LGBTQ community so I don't think I will catch backlash from HR if I include this aspect of our group.

I know it's risky to put this on my résumé but this group genuinely is one of my favorite aspects of campus life and something I could speak a lot about and how it has impacted my college experience. If you read résumés/are involved in the recruiting process at your bank or firm I would love to hear your thoughts. If there's a difference in banking/PE/consulting culture on this, please note that too.

If its a positive experience then keep it.  Can also be a good conversation piece at interviews or just general water cooler talk.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

It’s genuinely my favorite group of people on campus, I’m just worried because of Roe v Wade and general state of society that a religious group would be frowned upon/would ding me in the corporate world.

Absolutely. Don't be scared of the anti religion narrative. If they don’t respect that then I wouldn’t work there. I know you’re just starting out and when you’re just starting you may not have the most avenues available for you but That’s likely a glimpse into a work environment that isn’t great or isn’t going to serve you in the long run. Good luck

I know someone who got shitcanned at the resume screening stage from nearly all firms. He had experience with the Trump campaign as well as at a large conservative org know for hating LGBT and bussing people to Jan 6th. To be honest, he was a weak candidate overall so can't confirm that this was the issue.

I share this not to dissuade you from having it on your resume (if it is really meaningful to you, I would add it), just to share what can happen if your profile is too political (and often religion gets lumped in with politics).
