Quit An Internship

I am a sophomore currently interning at a bank and interned at a different bank over the summer. I have been offered to come back to the summer bank and work on some ongoing deals. I am not getting valuable experience at my current internship and don’t like the culture.

Can I still list this on my resume if I quit? Have been here for 2 months. Not sure if it would be more valuable to just suck it up here and have another full internship on the resume vs. senior title at the same bank.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider:

  1. Listing the Internship on Your Resume:

    • If you leave your current internship early, you can still list it on your resume. However, be prepared to explain why you left if asked during interviews. It's crucial to maintain a positive attitude and avoid burning bridges, as potential employers might contact your previous employer for references.
  2. Value of Experience:

    • If the experience at your current internship is not valuable and you dislike the culture, it might be worth considering the offer from the summer bank, especially if it involves working on ongoing deals. Practical deal experience can be highly beneficial for your resume and future career prospects.
  3. Resume Impact:

    • Having another full internship on your resume can be valuable, but the quality of the experience and the skills you gain are more important. If the summer bank offers a senior title and more substantial work, it could be more advantageous in the long run.
  4. Professionalism:

    • Ensure you leave your current internship professionally. Avoid showing a bad attitude or leaving abruptly, as this can negatively impact your reputation in the industry.

In summary, weigh the benefits of gaining valuable deal experience and a senior title at the summer bank against the potential drawbacks of leaving your current internship early. Make sure to handle the transition professionally to maintain a positive reputation.

If you're not getting any valuable experience then what you would list may not help, I think the senior title at the other bank and mentioning that you were asked to come back and help out after the end of your official internship is huge.

Unless you're at a bank with a way better rep than the bank you summered with like a top BB vs a no-name MM bank then I don't see the value you're adding by including a 2-month internship if you didn't learn much and there is no brand name recognition.

I would also list it if the current internship is IB while last internship was CB or something like that, and if the ultimate goal is to do something closer to what your doing now I would prob just stick it out rather than going back to something worse (staying in IB vs going back to CB in this example)
