Quit during Review??

I assume this would be a huge mistake, to quit during one's review at a bank right after getting a bonus check. However, I am sure this has happened. Has anyone done this/know anyone who has? How did it work out for them?

Are you considering doing this? I don't know anyone who has done it, but plenty of people who were waiting to get their bonus to quit weeks afterward. That's not uncommon, particularly during strong markets.

It looks really bad and reflects poorly on you. Why not wait a few weeks and avoid unnecessary ill will? If you HAVE to quit as soon as possible, at least try to wait 1-2 days and give your reason.

It's better to wait at least a few days, than to just have at during the review. During your review is tacky and shows that you just want a check and couldn't give 2 shits about their opinion and their thoughts on your annual performance (whether true or not, this is not the impression that you want to give). I have to agree that waiting a few weeks to put in your notice is a much smarter idea. If you have to do very quickly, it's fine, but don't do it during your review. Wait a few days, tell them about your situation, and thank them. Provide notice, as in be prepared to work out 2 weeks or so after telling them, if they want you to, and don't let your work go completely to crap. It's a big world out there, but there is no reason to burn bridges if you can avoid it. At the very least, I would try to wait a few days (yes, until the check clears) and then let them - in the evening, not in the morning - no one wants to start a day with bad news. Telling them at night lets them go home, sleep on it, and then figure out what they want to do, if anything (as in keep you for the 2 weeks, let you roll right off, etc).

Do you think (at a junior level) it is appropriate/respectful to write and give those I work with a letter officially expressing my need to leave. This would not be viewed as out-of-place, correct?

I wouldn't write a letter expressing "your need to leave," but I would draft a quick farewell letter with future contact info (cell, email) so that you can keep in touch with those you worked with and got along with. Just a quick farewell and thank, maybe your future plans (if you'd like to divulge - general is fine), and your contact info.

Your a tool if you draft a full flown letter felpz24. But if you want, I have the outline for you.

Dear collegues:

As you know, my testacles got eaten by my dog and I need to take some time off from this investment banking. If you need to reach me, I have my blackberry shoved so far up my ass that I may not hear it.
