Recruiting for Sophomore Rotational Programs
Hi,
I am currently a sophomore at a great school (not ivy league though). Every bank comes out and recruit here every winter. I have a decent resume/experience/gpa (pe, boutique, mid tier ibanking experience with a 3.8+).
I am looking for people's input on sophomore rotational programs...
do they still exist?
what firms?
level of difficulty? ( i know is hard.. but how hard?)
What i should expect besides a typical ibanking interview?
chances?
backup plans?
I have heard of people from ivy leagues that intern two summers straight at ibanks (in their summer analysts program) and there has been a few cases too at my school..
will it hurt my chances for junior year recruitment?
will ibanks really let a sophomore intern?
should i be content at the midtier that I am at? or even apply for their summer analyst program

Which of those rotational programs aren't only for diversity/women? I know Barcaps and CS are for diversity only, because I asked the recruiters there. Thanks

I think most of them do sophomore rotation programs, then there are diversity ones.. I would look at the bank's websites bro, I am guessing all the internships are on there.

I know JPM has one over the summer for 9 weeks, also GS has one but it is in the spring and only for 1 week.

Learning the proper spelling of "Sophomore" might be a good start for a detail-oriented industry.

demonstrated interest (coursework, prior work experience & networking), good grades
i suggest you pursue SEO if you meet their criteria that is. Since you are a rising sophmore, SEO may be able to get you a decent internship that could open up doors for you down the road.

Get rid of High School, SAT anything you've done before coming to college and your high-end restaurant stint and add more details on equity research group.

I don't think there is a definitive list of sophomore programs on here but searching helps. Below is a list I pulled up in about 20 seconds by searching "sophomore".

MS and JPM have it mainly for URMs, and all of these programs can be found on their websites if you look hard enough. Some may, however, only be publicized heavily at certain target schools. DB also has a 3-day program for sophomores.
Almost all of the listed programs above except for maybe UBS and Citi are geared towards URMs. Almost all of the spots are designated for URMs but there may be a handful of slots for non-URMs who network like crazy.
As for UBS and Citi, the people who tend to get it are at Wharton or top targets have previous financial experience and/or network like crazy.
At the end of the day, networking is key.

They're called "rotational," because you typically rotate through at least 2 divisions, choosing from IBD, Equities, Fixed Income, and IMD.
I have the same question as well. And to add to the list of questions, what else can sophomores do for a summer internship aside from these rotational programs?
The rotational program is meant to give you more exposure to a variety of areas of the bank before you lock in to your FT target during your junior year. Depending on the bank you may rotate through up to four or five divisions of the bank and have an opportunity to gain offers from each of the divisions to come back for an internship the next year.
