RX Internship Prep

Dear Forum Members,

I trust this message finds you well. I am pleased to share the news of my recent acceptance into a Restructuring Internship at an esteemed Elite Boutique (EB). In preparation for the commencement of this pivotal experience, I am reaching out to the community for your valuable guidance.

  1. Commencement Strategies:

    • Can you offer advice on establishing a positive presence during the initial weeks of a restructuring internship?
    • What strategies might facilitate a smooth integration into the team and aligning with the organizational culture?
  2. Technical Preparedness:

    • Which specific technical competencies should I prioritize for success in a restructuring role at an EB?
    • Are there credible online courses, literature, or other resources you recommend for fortifying technical acumen in the realm of restructuring?
  3. Educational Sources:

Are there noteworthy industry reports, case studies, or reputable websites conducive to staying abreast of the latest trends and advancements in the restructuring domain?

I sincerely appreciate your time and expertise

You’ll be doing a lot of research and analysis, know how to make charts well, will probably have to create iTraxx Crossover and Vix charts… otherwise read up on the restructuring framework in the country you’ll be interning at, UK, US etc… be solid with your cap tables, understand letters of credit, restricted cash and read up a bit on structural subordination… other than that be interested in the space, read Moyer and C Palace

Apart from that return will depend on your passion for the space and cultural fit with the team, some shops are a bit tough, if it’s Evercore RX UK your in for a tough ride

Bro come ON. Forget all the other advice here and just try to be a normal person. Listen, I work in Rx and it is infested with weird fucks and borderline autism all over the place. Like 75% of the internship is getting everyone to like you so that’s what you need to focus on.

My legitimate, 100% serious advice would be to start boozing on the weekend with your boys, talk to lots of girls and learn how to be comfortable speaking with the opposite sex, lift, and join an intramural sports league. All of these things will expose you to people and make you more social.

Truthfully, no one really expects you to know anything coming in and it’s better to show progress in your learning vs no growth if you come in knowing a lot. For example, there was this nerd fuck MBA intern in my group last year who knew a TON about Rx but didn’t get an offer because he couldn’t do the small things correctly and everyone thought he was a huge goober. Just be normal and work hard.

Hope it helps.
