SA 2025 In Slow Economic Environment

Target Sophomore here. How does recession/slow economic environment impact IB Recruitment (M&A specifically rather than ECM/DCM)? Are Summer class sizes smaller? Are less returns handed out?

Curious as it seems banks will always need analysts for grunt work as people exit after analyst stints but it makes sense to cut down to save $$$.
