I did it. It makes perfect sense for non targets like me because a lot of ppl assume your school sucks if it's not HYP and your GPA means nothing even if it's high. The SAT is standardized and respected as a metric, so it helps to reflect intelligence. Obv high SAT score doesn't equal intelligence, but bankers often do note it. I could tell many interviewers gave me more credit seeing my 1500+ score and sometimes even got compliments on it. It's not cringe to put it on your resume, especially if it's good and you're a non target. Also doing a BB SA this summer. Congrats on your offer

This is exactly what happened to me when networking this past summer – MDs/VPs would see my SAT and many asked why I wasn’t at an Ivy instead of my extremely non target state school. Always helped solidify (not the only factor obviously) that you’re smart enough to do the job. If it’s 1450+ and GPA is above 3.5 I’d put it on there

Yep. I never got asked for IBs but HFs and PE firms have all asked for it.

Of course it’s study-able. But intelligence still provides an upper (scoring) bound for most people, so there’s still info content in the #. Its value is in that it’s inherently a standardized metric, even if you give some flex for studied amount.

Plus, a ‘studied’ SAT also speaks to your ability to retain and apply information (from prep classes), which isn’t a useless datapoint.

2360 on the old scale, with perfect math and 800s on on my SAT IIs (Math II and Physics). Also, 35 ACT.

I didn't really need to include it on my resume as I went to an Ivy, but Associate 2 is right. Even outside of headhunters requiring it for PE/HF recruiting, I would 75% of banks asked for it, especially boutique banks like PJT and Centerview.

1600 (with 800 on Math 2 SAT II). Of the nine Ivy-plus schools I applied to, I was accepted at three, waitlisted at two, and rejected at four. ORM non-legacy, middle class male for context.

Kept the SAT score on my resume for IB/PE recruiting. Not sure how much of a factor it played in IB recruiting but HHs (and PE firms) definitely look at the scores. I remember multiple HHs made comments about my score. The PE firm I work for ran some analysis and apparently found that the two best predictors of success on the job are standardized test scores and GPA. Haven't seen the analysis but heard a recruiting lead pass that comment once FWIW.

I was a shitty student in high school and graduated with a 3.0. I literally only focused on niche ways to make money and spent all my time on that, neglecting school in its entirety. Hindsight is 20/20, and if I could go back in time I’d definitely prioritize my grades and try for a better university. I guess I always knew I was smart enough? Not sure, but I knew when I got to college I’d set my priorities straight.

I took a gap year after high school to start a company that did very well and generated >250k. That ended and when I got to college I put my grades first, and I’m pretty social so recruiting wasn’t too bad even though I went to a non target. Got interviews through referrals and converted 2/3 to offers.

All in all, everything has worked out thus far and I’ve matured a lot since my high school days. I think realizing your potential and having confidence in yourself is the key to success

I have SAT in low 1300, should I actually think of doing it again to be ready for PE/HF recruiting? Will be at top EB (long story why such low SAT lmao) so not sure how much my SAT matters but here it looks like it does

Took it three fucking times back in HS and got exactly same scores each time, 1510. I still remember I literally cried after seeing that damn number one week after my last shot. It probably shows my intellectual deficiency, which was further testified in the recruiting process. It also took me hella long time to land a SA offer last year.

I was a horrible standardized test taker but I excelled in school overall. Took the ACT and got dicked, scored a 25/36 lmao. Went to a non-target, then transferred to target. First-year analyst at a BB rn. Most colleges are shifting away from ACT's/SAT's and I think that's great for people who suck at them or can't afford tutors and shit.

I'll be starting full-time at a BB in a top group. 1310 SAT didn't try in high school. Ground my ass off in college for the job though.

here are my scores (Currently at hypsm)

act: 36/36 on every subsection

SAT: 1590/1600 first try, 1600/1600 second try

sat subjects: 800 math, 800 chemistry, 800 us history, 780 physics, 790 bio (molecular), 760 literature

lsat: 174 (took it in first year of college)

I'm going into IB because I believe it has the best long term career potential--am I not correct in thinking that? Tons of optionality, exit opps, diverse skillset, etc.

- high attrition in quant

- too much competition/office politics in SWE, easy to flatline quickly

- not interested in law

- too risky to jump into startups right away -- i'd rather start in IB and network and gain tangible skillsets

- through IB you can also exit to HFs, PE/VC firms, etc.

I finally understand why you are the way you are. Please do your own kids a favor and avoid passing on the trauma, IE: no need to be vehemently "anti-sugarcoating," or as most people call it, being an asshole

1420 or 1450, don't remember lol. I'm A1 at a BB in NYC and went to a non-target. I fucked up though cause I didn't study because I had a gf at the time and was really distracted. Harshly regret not doing better though bros, definitely should've studied more for it. Ironically enough, graduated a semester early and I could've only done that at the school I went to, so idk maybe things worked out well. The SAT is great as an IQ proxy for the fact that you can 'study for it' kinda kills it, but it definitely gives you a range for your IQ undoubtedly. It's useful because there's too much grade inflation and cheating in college (God I hated college lmao).

33 on the ACT. 35 in Math and English tho. Felt like hot shit at school, but once I came to this website, I was immediately humbled.

Actually, id say you need a 1500+ for the ivies in this day and age. Just got rejected from a semi-target yesterday as well.

Sorry to bug you - but did this impact your recruiting for PE at all? If so, it obviously wasn't enough but I'm curious since my 1170 score doesn't seem too far off from your's.

Like 1470, with a near-perfect score on English and a kinda lackluster (~650 I think?) score on Math.

Comparable on the ACT, but Math is weighted more there, so my average was only a 30.

Pretty sure it was also weighed in STEM. I vaguely remember being told it was also partially weighed in the Science score, but I may be misremembering being.

Mine was 1420 (650 reading 770 math). Is this a very bad score for PE recruiting? Always had trouble with reading speed..

I'm an undergrad at NYU with a 3.93 GPA tho, hoping this offsets a bit
