I did it. It makes perfect sense for non targets like me because a lot of ppl assume your school sucks if it's not HYP and your GPA means nothing even if it's high. The SAT is standardized and respected as a metric, so it helps to reflect intelligence. Obv high SAT score doesn't equal intelligence, but bankers often do note it. I could tell many interviewers gave me more credit seeing my 1500+ score and sometimes even got compliments on it. It's not cringe to put it on your resume, especially if it's good and you're a non target. Also doing a BB SA this summer. Congrats on your offer
This is exactly what happened to me when networking this past summer – MDs/VPs would see my SAT and many asked why I wasn’t at an Ivy instead of my extremely non target state school. Always helped solidify (not the only factor obviously) that you’re smart enough to do the job. If it’s 1450+ and GPA is above 3.5 I’d put it on there
To those wondering, top PE, HF, etc. absolutely look at standardized testing. In a world with rampant grade inflation, scheduling scheming, and 400Q flash-card memorization starting from freshman week, it’s extremely nice to have a tool to cut through the chaff and get an idea of aptitude.
Of course it’s study-able. But intelligence still provides an upper (scoring) bound for most people, so there’s still info content in the #. Its value is in that it’s inherently a standardized metric, even if you give some flex for studied amount.
Plus, a ‘studied’ SAT also speaks to your ability to retain and apply information (from prep classes), which isn’t a useless datapoint.
How would they verify your test scores? Havent had the option to submit my test scores to the SA internships I applied to. I have a 34 and its listed on my resume, but Im not sure how head hunters or firms verify this. With GPA I understand; they look at your transcripts.
2360 on the old scale, with perfect math and 800s on on my SAT IIs (Math II and Physics). Also, 35 ACT.
I didn't really need to include it on my resume as I went to an Ivy, but Associate 2 is right. Even outside of headhunters requiring it for PE/HF recruiting, I would 75% of banks asked for it, especially boutique banks like PJT and Centerview.
1600 (with 800 on Math 2 SAT II). Of the nine Ivy-plus schools I applied to, I was accepted at three, waitlisted at two, and rejected at four. ORM non-legacy, middle class male for context.
Kept the SAT score on my resume for IB/PE recruiting. Not sure how much of a factor it played in IB recruiting but HHs (and PE firms) definitely look at the scores. I remember multiple HHs made comments about my score. The PE firm I work for ran some analysis and apparently found that the two best predictors of success on the job are standardized test scores and GPA. Haven't seen the analysis but heard a recruiting lead pass that comment once FWIW.
Lol apparently everyone got a near perfect score. I got a 26 on the ACT (although no prep, took junior year of hs). Went to a non target, got a 4.0, and got offer for BB IB and going back full time after this year. I retook the ACT this fall (for PE/HF recruiting) and got a 35 with about an hour of studying a night for 2 months
You regret not trying harder in high school? Asking this out of curiosity, as you obviously were able to get that score and could’ve gone to a better school
I was a shitty student in high school and graduated with a 3.0. I literally only focused on niche ways to make money and spent all my time on that, neglecting school in its entirety. Hindsight is 20/20, and if I could go back in time I’d definitely prioritize my grades and try for a better university. I guess I always knew I was smart enough? Not sure, but I knew when I got to college I’d set my priorities straight.
I took a gap year after high school to start a company that did very well and generated >250k. That ended and when I got to college I put my grades first, and I’m pretty social so recruiting wasn’t too bad even though I went to a non target. Got interviews through referrals and converted 2/3 to offers.
All in all, everything has worked out thus far and I’ve matured a lot since my high school days. I think realizing your potential and having confidence in yourself is the key to success
I have SAT in low 1300, should I actually think of doing it again to be ready for PE/HF recruiting? Will be at top EB (long story why such low SAT lmao) so not sure how much my SAT matters but here it looks like it does
Took it three fucking times back in HS and got exactly same scores each time, 1510. I still remember I literally cried after seeing that damn number one week after my last shot. It probably shows my intellectual deficiency, which was further testified in the recruiting process. It also took me hella long time to land a SA offer last year.
I was a horrible standardized test taker but I excelled in school overall. Took the ACT and got dicked, scored a 25/36 lmao. Went to a non-target, then transferred to target. First-year analyst at a BB rn. Most colleges are shifting away from ACT's/SAT's and I think that's great for people who suck at them or can't afford tutors and shit.
I'm going into IB because I believe it has the best long term career potential--am I not correct in thinking that? Tons of optionality, exit opps, diverse skillset, etc.
- high attrition in quant
- too much competition/office politics in SWE, easy to flatline quickly
- not interested in law
- too risky to jump into startups right away -- i'd rather start in IB and network and gain tangible skillsets
- through IB you can also exit to HFs, PE/VC firms, etc.
Had a competitive profiles for non HYPSW top schools but got super lazy and ended up tanking my mid-year report. Hella waitlists that I presume were to see if I recovered. I did not.
I finally understand why you are the way you are. Please do your own kids a favor and avoid passing on the trauma, IE: no need to be vehemently "anti-sugarcoating," or as most people call it, being an asshole
I got a 1410 SAT, but a 33 on the ACT. Anyone think the SAT will be an issue and can adults even retake it? I was thinking of just riding the ACT since I found it easier.
1420 or 1450, don't remember lol. I'm A1 at a BB in NYC and went to a non-target. I fucked up though cause I didn't study because I had a gf at the time and was really distracted. Harshly regret not doing better though bros, definitely should've studied more for it. Ironically enough, graduated a semester early and I could've only done that at the school I went to, so idk maybe things worked out well. The SAT is great as an IQ proxy for the fact that you can 'study for it' kinda kills it, but it definitely gives you a range for your IQ undoubtedly. It's useful because there's too much grade inflation and cheating in college (God I hated college lmao).
Sorry to bug you - but did this impact your recruiting for PE at all? If so, it obviously wasn't enough but I'm curious since my 1170 score doesn't seem too far off from your's.
Pretty sure it was also weighed in STEM. I vaguely remember being told it was also partially weighed in the Science score, but I may be misremembering being.

Let the flexing begin
69420. Lol jokes aside, any score over 1450 will basically guarantee you admission to any top 5 school, and then any HF down the line!!
You said jokes aside then you said something that can only be interpreted as a joke
Thanks for ruining the joke, intern
My guy, even a 1600 and 4.0 won't guarentee you into a ivy.
dude it was a joke lol
1590
(1250) I'm going to a state school and have an offer at a BB. Some people put their high school scores on their resume, I find it cringe.

Well you’re going to cringe even harder if you do PE or HF recruiting, since basically everyone asks for it. It’s a factor at EBs as well.
Yep. I never got asked for IBs but HFs and PE firms have all asked for it.
1540 SAT. Non target non diversity working at a BB this summer
1560, w/ two 800s in the SAT IIs.

Headhunters do not. Most banks don’t either. Buyside shops might take a closer look, depending on the firm.
When I got my offer, they required us to send over our CollegeBoard official document, which you have to pay for

1520 SAT and 36 ACT. Took the ACT three times (33, 35, 36) but only took the SAT once
Why did you retake the ACT after getting a 33?
Because it’s a shit score

Also interested. Is it necessary for those who didn't do that great to retake it?
Take it, unless you went to a top school somehow
Take it.
34 ACT, tbh if youre a good test taker theres no need to study just get a good nights sleep and be in the zone on test day
Took it three fucking times back in HS and got exactly same scores each time, 1510. I still remember I literally cried after seeing that damn number one week after my last shot. It probably shows my intellectual deficiency, which was further testified in the recruiting process. It also took me hella long time to land a SA offer last year.
1510 is still a strong score.
It's solid for top 30 I'd say, but not even close to some ivies
1600.
I genuinely think anyone who scores below 1500 is retarded.
Retarded but still here and making a killing. You need to get out more.
I was a horrible standardized test taker but I excelled in school overall. Took the ACT and got dicked, scored a 25/36 lmao. Went to a non-target, then transferred to target. Would you pm me about your path?
Conscientiousness can compensate for a lack of raw intelligence to only such an extent.
How can they check? Honestly, I feel like if you say something like 1450 no one would check
Can't they verify with College Board?
u can only send scores to schools. unless you give them ur pw and email (lol) they can’t verify anything
Yes, some firms asked me to do so.
I'll be starting full-time at a BB in a top group. 1310 SAT didn't try in high school. Ground my ass off in college for the job though.
Something like 900/1600
Community College squad
Still made it!
That’s very nice actually, congratulations
1560 at barely semi-target
Like other commenters, I’ve always been asked several times about my SAT and why I didn’t go somewhere else with my score.
Feel like most semi-target kids are above 1520/33
here are my scores (Currently at hypsm)
act: 36/36 on every subsection
SAT: 1590/1600 first try, 1600/1600 second try
sat subjects: 800 math, 800 chemistry, 800 us history, 780 physics, 790 bio (molecular), 760 literature
lsat: 174 (took it in first year of college)
Why’d you take the LSAT so early

1470.
1540/1600
790 verbal
750 math
The one time my dad said he was proud of me.
I finally understand why you are the way you are. Please do your own kids a favor and avoid passing on the trauma, IE: no need to be vehemently "anti-sugarcoating," or as most people call it, being an asshole
Thanks prospect. Appreciate the advice. I’m assuming you have a pysch degree from penn. Lol
I got a 1410 SAT, but a 33 on the ACT. Anyone think the SAT will be an issue and can adults even retake it? I was thinking of just riding the ACT since I found it easier.
Thank God I’m Canadian
Non existent lol. I graduated two years early just to avoid the damn test. Things luckily worked out and I'm at a top BB though!
1250, go to a small state school and will be a SA at a BB. Ended up in a better situation than my friends that went to target schools.
1420 or 1450, don't remember lol. I'm A1 at a BB in NYC and went to a non-target. I fucked up though cause I didn't study because I had a gf at the time and was really distracted. 33 on the ACT. 35 in Math and English tho. Felt like hot shit at school, but once I came to this website, I was immediately humbled.
Wouldn't trust every score on here plus tbh you just need a >1450 to QUALIFY for ivies and rest is all based on ur EC's, coursework, etc.
Actually, id say you need a 1500+ for the ivies in this day and age. Just got rejected from a semi-target yesterday as well.
1600 on a 2400 scale
Sorry to bug you - but did this impact your recruiting for PE at all? If so, it obviously wasn't enough but I'm curious since my 1170 score doesn't seem too far off from your's.
Like 1470, with a near-perfect score on English and a kinda lackluster (~650 I think?) score on Math.
Comparable on the ACT, but Math is weighted more there, so my average was only a 30.

Mine was 1420 (650 reading 770 math). Is this a very bad score for PE recruiting? Always had trouble with reading speed..
I'm an undergrad at NYU with a 3.93 GPA tho, hoping this offsets a bit
