Scotiabank NYC vs Mizuho NYC SA27
Got both offers, want help deciding. Have good relationship at Scotia, can likely get into a good group there. For Mizuho did 0 networking, but told in interview can be placed into coverage if I rank it highly. What are your guy's thoughts for FT/lateralling perspective and deal flow/culture?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to consider:
Full-Time/Lateraling Perspective: Mizuho generally has a stronger reputation and brand recognition compared to Scotiabank, especially in the U.S. market. This could provide better opportunities for lateraling or full-time roles, particularly if you're targeting competitive exits or other top-tier firms.
Deal Flow: Mizuho is known for having solid deal flow, particularly in coverage groups like TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom). If you can secure a strong group at Mizuho, it could offer better exposure to high-profile deals compared to Scotiabank.
Culture: Since you already have a good relationship at Scotiabank and can likely secure a strong group, this could be a significant advantage in terms of culture and fit. A supportive environment can make a big difference in your experience and performance.
Networking: The fact that you have not networked at Mizuho might make it harder to navigate the culture and secure a top group, even if you rank it highly. On the other hand, your established connections at Scotiabank could give you a smoother start and better support system.
Recommendation:
If your priority is long-term brand recognition and deal flow, Mizuho might be the better choice, provided you can secure a strong group. However, if culture and fit are more important to you, and you value the relationships you've already built, Scotiabank could be the safer and more comfortable option.
