SMBC CIB Lending Management Thoughts and Exit-Ops

I currently have an offer for SMBC CIB's Lending Management Team and wanted to understand more of the work that entails and how regarded it is. Moreso, what do the exit ops look like. This is a SA'26 position.

I believe so. This is the description: Within Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage, the Lending Management Group is responsible for end to end deal execution and portfolio management across a spectrum of industries. The main function of this role is to provide analytical support to the senior members of the Lending Management team. This individual will support associates and senior level staff in preparing credit applications for approval by the risk management department, reviewing quarterly financial and annual reports, conducting regular credit analysis of the clients in the portfolio, providing research and analytics, drafting summaries on earnings calls, and performing other administrative responsibilities as well as ad-hoc tasks as required.

Sorry for late response but yeah, it’s a lending arm of the bank. Have a friend at Truist in their group that’s like this, basically credit memos/modeling/pm work. Seems like an okay gig, says most people end up in Private Credit

You definitely build more transferrable skills in this LMG group as opposed to the marketing team (both under CIBC umbrella). Have seen folks leave for PC but bank is continuing to leverage india for financial spreading unfortnuately cuts into your skill building. I would take the offer but keep your foot on the pedal when it comes to FT recruiting...and assuming you earn a RO, I would continue to recruit - have personally seen people leave 6 mo. into FT to other IB and adjacent groups.

Spreads suck but so does our India team. Have to check every time they do something, half of them can’t even figure out what an EBITDA Bridge is.
