Starting Career Abroad
I have a couple of questions about starting my investment banking career abroad.
What would be the best way to start abroad, say in London, as an analyst? I live just outside of NYC so I've always assumed I would work in the city after college, but I'm now considering working abroad for a bit. Would having a stint as an SA abroad be the best way to get into FT there, or would it work to be an SA in NY and then request to transfer to the bank's London office?
How easy/difficult would it be to switch back to NY after a couple of years abroad? Would I be able to transfer back to the bank's NY back? Would it be difficult to get a job in PE/HF/VC in NYC from a London office? Or would I be missing out on too many important networking opportunities that it would not be feasible?
Thanks so much for your help!
From what I've seen the best way is to do a year abroad at LSE/Oxford/Cambridge, and land an internship in London for the summer. Assuming you do well, you've got your London banking offer in the bag for the following year, so you can go back to the US and finish your final year feeling pretty stress-free and positive.
As for moving back, I don't know anything about that.
