Thread pulled

Is there a reason my thread which was gauging interest in an investment banking Bootcamp was pulled? I find it pretty ridiculous that users are encouraged to contribute content/information to a forum and when they themselves try to gain some information from the very users they regularly and selflessly help their thread is yanked. Not to mention that the single WSO user that is most benefitted from my -- and everyone else's -- contributions is WSO itself.

I'm sure there's a plausible explanation. I also acknowledge that Patrick has successfully scaled WSO to a level where he has to delegate these tasks to others, but I would just like to remind his staff members that the reason WSO has had this level of success is because of the users that have contributed to its content.

Uh oh.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Hey Marcus, - I sent you a PM at 1:55 stating why it was pulled. Did you not get that?

We have affiliate partners that offer financial modeling training (which is the primary way WSO brings in revenue) and we have been burned in the past by allowing users to promote competing programs / products.

That is why we don't allow users to promote their own programs / services / products that are in direct competition with WSO or our affiliates. this includes: financial modeling training (self-study and live), finance interview and career guides, resume reviews, our job board, etc.

We completely acknowledge WSO is nothing without support from users like you, but we also need to generate revenue to continue improving the site / keep us in business.

-Patrick

Didn't get any PM.

I get it. I get that this is a commercial endeavor. I would just note that for those of us that have made meaningful contributions on this forum, we may from time to time seek to gain something from our investment of time and effort. And for our contributions to be accepted with open arms when WSO has something to gain, yet shut down when it benefits the person posting it is not the best way to cultivate loyalty among certified users.

All of this is hypothetical, because I was in fact not even selling a competing service. I was simply trying to determine if there is demand for a service, ie market research.

I certainly understand your position, I'm just not pleased with it. Anyway, spoke my mind. Congrats with the site, it's grown quite a bit and as is usually the case as you grow, you can't win all the hearts and minds out there.

Marcus, I hear you too - I think we absolutely needs to do a better job giving more value to the Certified Users. That was why we offered a free WSO Job board subscription several months ago (can't remember the details but can look it up), but it's not enough, especially for the top contributors like yourself.

We are trying to get better content in here as well for the Certifieds talking about different career paths, economics and investing ideas so that it's Certified User helping Certified Users as well, and not so frequently Certified Users helping the young chimps. It's something we have always struggled with -the good news is that the group of Certified Users is also growing quickly. Additionally we will soon be adding in a new feature that allows you to easily follow whatever users you want through a "My Feed" view...hopefully Certifieds can gain value by following the other most knowledgeable users as well.

Also, I just realized why you didn't get the PMs and another one I had sent you on the 20th...- I sent them to "Marcus Halbestram" not "Marcus_Halbestram"...will send both PMs to you now. my bad.

Just FYI, I have received two emails saying that I have received a PM yet nothing is in my inbox when I look. Not sure if the email is messed up or the WSO Inbox.

I got kicked out of McDonalds when I was walking around asking customers what their hypotherical interest in different burgers would be, made no sense!
