This is why UBS’ strategy is hiring 50% non-Americans for analyst and associate level. They actively discriminate against Americans so they can pay $25k bonuses to H1Bs and underpay and undercut the fair market wages. The only junior “talent” UBS retains are the people who can’t leave due to visa issues.
I heard they were budgeting the 150k H1b fee out of the bonus pool, kept the numbers paid out lower.
firm would rather spend 150k on new H1b internationals from india that they can order around as lowly paid slaves then pay americans proper wall street bonuses(and risk they lateraling).
None of these seniors value any of the junior talent. They see you all as more whiney and needy AI bots, or like 10% better than just having India do everything
This is just not true lol... almost if not all the internationals are graduates from US colleges, meaning there is no 100k fee
At least get your facts right before you fear monger
For the GB 2023 analyst class, they deferred the start date for half the incoming analysts by 7 months. UBS discriminated based on citizenship status to make sure internationals started on time and only Americans got deferred.
Can confirm, got deferred and everyone on my team that wasn’t fit this description
They hired foreigners first in the 2023 class and pushed Americans into 2024 starts. If that doesn’t tell you that UBS hates all Americans than nothing will

What’s the context they are giving for these numbers? I realize UBS did terribly performance wise but what rationale are they giving people? These are appalling numbers

Most likely answer is probably $0. I believe any given year about 50%+ of MDs are non-net revenue generators, but all are “really close” to a couple $10bn sell sides... Or at least that’s the story Marco hears

How were the bonuses in the tech group?
The lowest out of any group I’ve heard. They hired dozens of seniors so allegedly there is not much left in the pool. Its leadership views all juniors as very replaceable so no need to pay them a good bonus
For reference, what are the As1/As2/As3 base salaries?

I believe these numbers. Seen something similar at BOA with my own eyes and ears.
They make a lot of sense when you consider the bonus pool was already allocated to guarantees and the bank did no deals.
UBS seems to be making up for bad top line numbers by aggressively decreasing junior comp. It’s a win-win, increases short term profitability and helps push out the weakest hands who are only in it for comp

As a janitor I only work 40 hours a week, yet made more bonus than many of these bozos.
