UNC Chapel Hill vs other state schools for undergrad
I have searched the site and have seen mixed views.
What is UNC-CH's rep FOR NYC? I don't know what you guys think, but I believe that you have to consider that a sizable percentage of the people in the school want to stay down south (a lot of in state kids), which makes me believe that if you want NYC, you have less competition along with a relatively strong alumni base.
Is it comparable to Michigan or UVA or Georgetown (i know that its not a state school)

UNC places really well with Charlotte banks. It is a little tougher from any Southern school to move up to NYC (including Duke, Emory, Wake, UVA, etc.). It doesn't really work the way you are thinking, because most banks visiting UNC will be recruiting for Charlotte, Atlanta, DC area. With that said, there are plenty of UNC guys on Wall Street. It is a big school with an active alumni base.
I went to Wake undergrad and had some of my best times in college while at UNC visiting or for rugby. It is a really fun school, great academically, top notch sports, good facilities and Franklin St. is a blast.
I would say approximately on par with UMich and UVA, although recruiting will vary depending on what major/program you do.
Obviously, lots of recruiting for Charlotte IB. Honestly, Charlotte IB is probably 90% from UNC (either UG or MBA). That being said, UNC's UG business program is top 10, regardless of state school or not. As you would imagine, UNC is pretty well represented on Wall Street, among Tiger Funds, etc.
It should be noted that IB in Charlotte is pretty damn strong, especially with the emergence of WF IBD as a legitimate player. A lot of Wake guys I went to school with ended up at Wells and are doing pretty well (one just landed PE in NYC and another lateraled to NYC from the Charlotte office). There are some good boutiques in the area as well, and UNC guys are everywhere.

In terms of NYC I think UVA and Gtown are certainly stronger.
OP said in his original post that Gtown wasn't a state school...
For anything outside Charlotte, U-M, UVA, and Georgetown are better.
You could argue UVA and U-M, but Georgetown? It sounds exclusive and all, but I don't run into that many GTown people. Maybe they are playing outside of my league...
I should have transfered to UNC when I got in. I have seen plenty of UNC backgrounds in IB.

Since chapel hill is a semi-target for new york, what kind of stats/expeirence will help one compete with students from target schools?

I've been reaching out guys in my fraternity who were at the UNC chapter who are up in NYC right now so I can definitely confirm the fact that UNC does place kids pretty well on the Street.
