Based on the most helpful WSO content, Warwick is considered one of the strongest universities in the UK for breaking into investment banking (IB), especially outside of London and Oxbridge. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Placement in IB: Warwick has a solid track record of placing students into both bulge bracket (BB) and elite boutique (EB) investment banks. For example, in one instance, 3 out of 12 interns at Evercore were from Warwick, showcasing its strong representation in the industry.

  2. Target School Status: While not at the level of LSE, Oxford, or Cambridge, Warwick is still regarded as a target school for IB in the UK. This means banks actively recruit from Warwick, giving you access to networking events, career fairs, and on-campus recruitment opportunities.

  3. International Student Challenges: As an international student, breaking into IB in the UK can be more challenging due to visa sponsorship requirements. However, Warwick's reputation and resources can help you stand out if you leverage them effectively.

  4. Cost Consideration: Paying £35k per year is a significant investment. To maximize your return, you should:

    • Take full advantage of Warwick's career services and alumni network.
    • Start preparing early for Spring Week applications, as these are critical for securing summer internships and eventual full-time roles.
    • Focus on building a strong CV, networking, and honing your technical and behavioral interview skills.
  5. Comparison to Alternatives: If you have other options like LSE, Oxford, or Cambridge, they might offer slightly better placement rates and networking opportunities. However, if Warwick is your best choice, it is still a strong contender for IB.

In summary, Warwick is a solid choice for breaking into IB, but success will depend on how well you utilize the resources available and prepare for the competitive recruitment process.

How about PPE at warwick? I know generally the most prestigious warwick majors for finance and IB is morse and other econ department majors, but I want to know how well PPE fares up against the other courses at warwick for IB

I’ve heard though course doesn’t matter as much aslong as you’re at a target

Uni matters more than course for sure, but the only people getting into IB after doing French (for example) are Oxbridge. It’s best to maximise both.

Yah echoing what the others are saying, WBS faculty placements aren't as good as the classic Warwick courses (MORSE, Maths, Econ) which places kids into the Top BBs and EBs

That said WBS resources are fairly good - not as good as a LSE or LBS - but if you make the most of it and become a total hardo you can have some success.

My judgement is independent of the price you are paying. I personally wouldn't pay 105-140k to study here as an international, but it got me into IB so.....

Yeah mate just get into that 1% acceptance program, super simple.

A majority of my analyst class aren’t spring week converts. Summer intakes are massive.

GS + MS even stopped doing spring weeks altogether because of perceived low quality of cohorts, from what I’ve heard …

Don't understand why MS would remove the spring, it's a classic DEI / corporate responsibility gimmick. Everybody knows the 1-2 kids that get the MS summer from the spring NEVER convert, but it's nice to have it there as like a signal of progressivism.

Nowdays spring weeks are just dei/socmob pipelines in disguise. Also it is significantly harder for non deis and non socmobs to be converted even if u land a spring. Same things happen with the FT conversions in the UK.
