west coast

im interested in getting a banking job in LA or SF after college, im at the east coast ivy. Do those offices have OCR just like NY offices or whats the process for getting a job on the West Coast? I know there are less positions so its not necessarily easier to get a job there, but is it easier coming from an ivy as compared to their local schools like Haas, Stanford, USC/UCLA?

I think top local schools that you mentioned have you beat, just because there are more alumni from those schools in those offices. You maybe able to apply through your school, but I think having some kind of alumni connection at one of those offices is key. If you really want to work on the West coast you could use one of your East Coast connections and see if he has any friends in the LA office so that he can forward the resume.

I am currently a junior at a west coast school, which is a target school for regional BB and MM offices. I saw a number of Ivy League and East Coast students at my superday interviews, and they said they indicated in their first round interviews that they were interested in working in SF or LA. My advice to you would be apply regularly, and in your first round on-campus interview, indicate your location preference.

i think boomstickbanker said it all... i'm also a junior @ a west coast target school, and it's more common for east coast kids to break in to west coast offices than the other way around... however, there areig.. lesser positions in regional offices, and I've heard that most west coast kids with a good resume is applying to NYC because the chances are just as big

what about VC/PE firms in LA? if i want to exit into VC/PE on the West Coast, is it better to do a few years of banking in NYC or start banking on the West Coast right away?
