What to talk about with MD during Linkedin networking apart from hobbies/markets?

Apart from the usual hobbies, sports or even market news/research, what else can a college sophomore talk about with a MD?

I am an Applied Math major and I can only think of some models that I constructed. Not sure what else to talk about with a Portfolio Manager - Equity.

Have I reached the point where I should start asking for resume drops? (Recruiting season just started in my region (I am outside the US)) .

Currently, I am seriously running out of topics to discuss during my networking sessions. I was told to be patient during networking and not to "ask for interviews" until a friendship has been fostered. Is this advice still relevant in this age of rapid information?

TLDR: Is it time to directly ask for interviews/resume drop yet? I am running out of networking ideas and recruiting season has arrived.
