Where do people live in Boston?
Working at Goldman Boston next summer, so their office is in the financial district. I’m very unfamiliar with the area, so I’m wondering if anyone has any living recommendations for a summer intern near the financial district? Ideally I’d want to walk to work, have a decent place, and pay under $1500 a month (though less would be great). Any recommendations? Are these requests even possible? I looked at Suffolk summer housing because it’s close but I’d be paying over 2k a month for a single.
I'd say southie or beacon hill if you actually want to sublet from someone, but it may be tough to find subletting opportunities in those areas. For a lot of sublettable space, I'd check out Allston, but you won't be walking to work from there. Student housing is a good option as well.
Just out of curiousity, is the position at Goldman for IB? I work in the space in Boston (albeit not on the same tier as GS) and did not know that had a team up here, aside from a couple of MD's.
Thanks. An nope, not IB- it’s a mid/back office role.
Look at student housing in Mission Hill/Fenway. Should be doable & right along T stops. Lot of sublets available in those areas because high density of college students.
Subleases on Comm Ave.
Also what group? CIMD?
I’m currently in Boston and are looking to sublet my 2B1B apartment over this upcoming summer, so PM me if you are interested.
Reposting my comment from another thread (https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/where-to-live-in-boston-for-youn…):
I'd recommend the North End. Lots to do, easy to get around the City, and it's generally a really nice place to be in the Summer.
Lots of people I know really like the South End (different from Southie!!!). A bit cheaper and some excellent views of town. Just mind your streets and don't stray too close to BMC at night. But, as someone noted above, you'll find a slightly older crowd (dont you youngins go off calling me old...and while you're at it, move your car off my lawn).
Allston/Brighton will be cheap, you'll have plenty of BU/BC parties you can go to, and lots of good bars. I lived there when at BU. Though now at 35 not entirely sure I could live there anymore. Too many dumb freshmen every fall (I used to be one, so i can easily say this...) And the godforsaken Green Line has already stripped me of any faith in any public transit system anywhere.
Back Bay has lots going for it, and you'll be close enough to take in the scenes and "benefits" of Fenway during baseball season.
If money is no object, go Fort Point/Seaport. You'll be able to walk to work and walk home along the Harbor every night.
I wouldn't go Beacon Hill for a summer place. Not really enough going on close to your place to make it worth your while for 12 weeks of rent you'll pay there.
Don't go to Mission Hill. Just don't.
