WTF!?

Well I was on WSO and found high school students looking for summer internships... I was literally shocked since I am a high school senior myself... Am I suppose to look for an intern now??

And what is the normal route to IB?? What kind of intern do you do in your freshman and sophomore?

thekingwillwhipAs a HS'er, it's all about connections... Landing a internship at a firm is near impossible.

Can you elaborate on this please...

That is very true.I just graduated this year from high school last summer I was interning at a Big Four firm and I got and offer to return again this summer. I did a workshop with this firm to work on business skills like resume writing, interviewing tips etc. Basically they just said they were looking to hire high school graduates. They hadn't realised I had another year to go of high school but I ended up getting an offer and ended up working here. I would recommend going to networking events so people can get familiar with your face. I definitely believe that having good connections will certainly help especially in the future.

I have a friend who interned at GS while in HS. She's a freshman in college now and she's interning at a major PE fund (step below megafund).

And you're telling me you haven't even looked at a PWM (Pathetic Wimpy Megatool) internship yet?

You don't have to. HS senior here myself, interning as an ibanking SA at a pretty decent mid-market boutique. No connections. You have no idea how FKING hard it was to get this and how close minded some people are.

If you can work hard to learn stuff on your own (modeling, etc.) and show them you can actually do the work it'll help. Really extremely difficult. Had to prepare a resume/cv to impress and get rejected/ignored by about 31 HFs/boutiques/bignames. Only 2 replied, one was just a PM at a HF who advised me on what to do over the next year and told me to apply for internship positions when I'm in UG.

The other was ex-MD at an elite boutique starting out his own firm. Didn't intend to give me a spot, wanted to tell me more about his career but was impressed enough to put me on 2 deals that his firm was working on, since he had a shortage of people anyway. Been on it for only about 2 weeks now but it has been pretty awesome so far.

It helps to ask for an unpaid internship since you're still in high school. I did it too, but the MD is still going to pay me a "small stipend" kinda thing.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Funniest

I'm in middle school and will start as a SA at a BB in June. I networked like crazy and you guys wouldn't believe how hard it is to get them to take you seriously when you're in eighth grade. I had the passion and I guess they saw that during a few of my cold calls.

HAHAHA

bIastoiseI'm a 3 year old water based pokemon and managed to network my way into kkr when i was a mere squirtle. I mentioned my past defeats of the elite 4 and they were superimpressed, which I think helped me land the internship and eventually the job. It was tough convincing them to take an unevolved pokemon over the 50 charizards applying but when i showed my will and determination things worked out

HAHAHAHA i've never even played pokeman but thats ridiculous

Funniest WSO post I've read to date.

I usually don't condone obviously trolling, but this post was brilliant.

Such a good metaphor.

I'm 80 years old but I believe in reincarnation so I think it might be time for me to start networking for the next life. I've began cold calling firms to let them know that in ~20 years they'll be getting a call from me. I've also hidden GMAT and DCF modelling books in a time capsule in my backyard. What do you guys think? Am I too late to the game??

this is ridiculous...have fun in high school case girls and get fucked up.

i was very very very lucky to get an internship my junior year in HS at Wachovia (BO IT) but never really intended on getting one. can't say it didn't help but thats cuz i was a dumb ass and went to a non-target if you go to a decent university and network, get good grades, and get experience starting your sophomore year it are set.

on a side note...it doesn't hurt to get some professional experience law, cpa, marketing, IT firms in HS (rather than burger king) and pay for random shit save up but dont be gay and over do it.
