depressed Credit Suisse intern

I have been trying to find FT roles in "high finance" and have not had any luck. Damn UBS did not even give me a SD despite stellar reviews and just heard that they are done recruiting.

Feeling dejected and frustrated.

Any advice?

Unfortunately this market is just terrible and IB recruitment has been tough. Sitting in a similar spot as you, I’ve seen the limited amount of spots open. I’ve started considering backup plans such as DCM at MMs and Securitization. With a job like this it should be relatively easy to transition back into IB after we go back into a bull market.

When you say you’re looking at DCM, are you strictly applying to FT analyst programs meant for new graduates or are you applying to analyst positions? Usually they’re calling for 1-3 years of experience and I have just 12 weeks from the summer so I haven’t applied to those.

Only Analyst programs because when you see a posting for a regular analyst that is typically for asap start.

Important to reach out to people in DCM and if you’re lucky you’ll get connected with someone who’s very familiar with the recruitment cycle or apart of it. In my experience that has usually been an ASO/VP.

I'll also say that all employers will understand if you recruit to something else and return back into IB. Everyone I've talked to gets that the situation is shitty and not getting a return is not a negative thing at all. Also, the market is also shitty and people know that. So, if you end up recruiting again in a few years it won't be looked down upon imo.

This doesn’t help since OP didn’t say he/she has this as an option or had a super for this coming up.

I received an analyst offer with a July 2024 start date. But my friend is interviewing tomorrow for the analyst position with a Feb 2025 start date.
