Banks absolutely don't care about club positions at universities, especially if it's unrelated to finance/business. If you don't have enough to put on your resume, you can perhaps devote one bullet point to it (you can probably find something better to put on there, however.) Don't bring it up in your cover letter or interviews or you risk getting laughed at.

Minoring in religious studies won't hurt you, but is unlikely to help you much either.

I agree. It is a shame that freshman really can't have much content on their resume because they are most likely freshly minted in the job market. I guess the only thing that could really stand out besides the caliber of school would be if they are a d1 athlete of some sort.

The downside of listing a religious club position on your resume is that sends a signal (intentional or not) that you are putting your membership of it on the agenda. Interviewers could interpret this as a you making your religion an issue (not your leadership role in the club), which may trigger a negative reaction.

I understand that's not the interpretation you're after, but you're not going to be standing around the desk of the person culling hundreds of resumes to explain that.

I find religion deeply interesting and a lot of my bookshelf is occupied by books on religion. However, I would likely ding a resume that listed membership of a religious club for the reason above.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
