not finance..but marketing salary?

i know this isn't exactly finance related. but does anyone know the average salary for a recent graduate (undergrad) going into marketing? I'm talking about jobs like product/brand management in well known consumer goods companies like p&g, l'oreal, jnj etc. how much would the base salary and bonus be for someone from a target?

how are the finance roles in these companies paid?

Advertising and product management are two totally different things. In F500s, the sales / marketing function often doesn't even include advertising. That goes under "communications." So make sure you check exactly what the company means by "marketing."

And to clarify, in F500s, sales & product management often run the show. Finance is a support role.

Wow...so not true. Particularly at companies like P&G and L'Oreal. However, I would say to the OP that entry-level marketing positions vary widely by company. There's a solid cohort of Post-MBA Product/Brand Management positions, but positions out of undergrad seem like a more motley bunch (at least from what I've seen). Your best bet would be to land some sort of Marketing/Sales rotational or Leadership Development program. I doubt you would make less than 50-60k in one of those roles to start out, but I'm not really sure how progression would work.

The last act is tragic, however happy all the rest of the play is; at the last a little earth is thrown upon our head, and that is the end for ever.

For those who don't know about marketing jobs, Brand management is not marketing in the sense of advertising, but actually more like consulting / strategy. Basically brand managers are a CEO of a particular brand. So they decide how to boost sales, if it's worth expanding the product line, how to respond a competitors strategy, avoiding price wars, etc.

A lot of that has to do with building a brand to communicate with consumers or the "market" using ads and PR. On the flip side, you also need to know a lot about the market, and estimate market size, market demand etc. To build a strong, profitable brand you need to be analyzing market penetration, buying rate/ purchase cycle, consumer loyalty rates by organizing a lot of market research.

Brand management is a great way to transition into consulting. It's also a common exit opp for consultants too.

No, but I've worked in advertising and have not been impressed by anyone ive came across, and that includes people with CS degrees from good schools. It's a career for betas and bimbos.

If you have an engineering degree and go into a sales / commercial / marketing rotational program in an industrial company it should be >$60k. I don't know about CPG.
