Commercial Banking or FP&A
Currently working as an FP&A analyst at a women’s retail company. Salary is 70k. Been working here almost 3 months now.
Prior to accepting this job, I had been looking for employment for a year. One of my interests was commercial/corporate banking. I got close a few times with Wells Fargo, but didn’t end up getting an offer. I kept in contact with the hiring managers and they really liked me and offered to refer me if possible.
Well, I just got a call from a director at WF offering me an interview Thursday within commercial capital. He said if I do well, they’ll extend an offer that afternoon. I’m definitely going to do the interview, but is it worth leaving my job? I do absolutely nothing at my current job (mostly because I’m still training). My manager is always busy and doesn’t have much time to train me. I’m definitely going to ask for more money, probably around 80-85k base.
I know the wlb in commercial banking is very good and the comp is great too. I also know that you don’t need a masters to progress within the position, unlike FP&A. I also think being in the credit analysis field would open doors to PE… especially within real estate. I really want to be in real estate acquisitions analysis.
What do you guys think?
Well FP&A is definitely not going to get you to PE. I have no idea about what the WF Commercial Capital does, but if they are the Commercial banking then why would you not take it. I mean especially if you can make a little more. Granted I have never heard of a legit job that offers a job after one interview. I would just make sure its not some shitty cold calling job.
Yes it’s for WF commercial banking. They have a few different divisions (commercial capital, middle market, and something else). Basically different loan sizes.
From what I’ve read and what other have said, it seems like a dead end job. I’d basically pigeon hole myself in banking and never get out.
Guy called me yesterday and said if I do well they’d extend me an offer that afternoon. He seemed in a rush to fish the spot asap. I didn’t even apply to the job, I was referred to him through a few mangers I interviewed with like 5 months ago.
It would be 3 interviews back to back to back, not just one.
I don’t think it is that definite. FP&A gives some transferable skills to PE. Also, you can do FP&A and then a T10 MBA and you have an even better chance.
So you can say improbable, but it’s definitely possible.
Get the WF name on your resume. Credit training is always looked highly upon. Banks TRAIN YOU.
I would accept it then try and break into corporate banking, and then try and break into investment banking
