I love movies and some of my favorite classics that come to mind are Chinatown, LA Confidential, Goodfellas, Wall Street, and City of God. More recent movies I liked were 3 Billboards, Get Out, Arrival, Bridge of Spies, Kingsmen, Whiplash, and Moonlight.

Also a massive fan of nostalgic kid movies, and am pumped that some are coming out now. Just saw Incredibles 2 with my mom (Incredibles was my fav movie growing up) and going to see the adorable looking Christopher Robin with my grandma (who used to read me Winnie the Pooh books before bed as a little guy). I know its childish but I'm pumped, fuck the haters haha.

Currently more obsessed with TV shows than movies tho. Big fan of Billions.

100% with you on the kid movies. Lion King has always been my favorite movie and still watch it every once in a while. Also just watched Whiplash this past weekend; phenomenal movie.

hello, well I am also a huge movie lover! I would give you some recommendations but my favourite movies are more the classy ones like Shutter Island, Inception - recently I also saw Primal fear with Richard Gere - it was also worth watching... It depends on what film genre you prefer (I like thriller for example)... Am I the only one who feels the old movies are much better than the new ones?

Prior to the film, I had read the novel Primal Fear, which was excellent. The movie was incredibly faithful to the book and it was probably the first movie that put Edward Norton on my radar. Whether Fight Club, Death to Smoochy, American History X, 25th Hour, Keeping the Faith, Birdman, Rounders, The Italian Job... comedy or drama, if he's in it, I'll more than likely watch it and thoroughly enjoy it.

My favorites range wildly. Desk Set, Star Wars, High 'em High, Wizards, The Maltese Falcon, Kill Bill, Chinatown, the original Taking of Pelham 123, Like Water for Chocolate, 12 Angry Men, Moonstruck, Pulp Fiction, Tortilla Soup, Hunt for Red October, Slap Shot, Miracle, RocknRolla, Crimson Tide, Vertigo, For a Fistful of Dollars, Boondock Saints, LA Confidential, Old Boy (the 2003 Korean film, not the American remake), The Ref, Working Girl, Usual Suspects, The Incredibles, The Long Kiss Goodbye, Sucker Punch, Ex Machina, Snatch, Mad Max: Fury Road, Train to Busan.

As for current stuff... I highly recommend going to see "Sorry to Bother You" - it is an epic mindfuck of a movie.

Does anyone else not like the Star Wars movies? I love the SW universe for games and I even played miniatures tabletop game and tabletop RPG game in middle school, but I just can't get behind the movies. I actually enjoyed Episode 2. Don't know if I would if I re-watched. I tried watching the new new ones though and it's just so over-the-top and unbelievable. What are these villains even trying to accomplish? What's their platform? So they've taken over the galaxy. Fine. Now what?

The Godfather (series) is like a fall time classic for me.

I just think some of Adam Sandler's older movies (Mr. Deeds, Happy Gilmore, especially) are funny, which might just be a guilty pleasure

Margin Call (Paul Bettany and Zach Quinto are just epic)

Menace II Society, because they're so hood and it's funny

And also have to admit that children's movies are great too (The Incredibles, UP, Toy Story, Despicable Me, etc.)

If you're into mob flicks, Donnie Brasco is one of the most underrated mob movies of all time imo. Al Pacino is hysterical as always and it's peak Johnny Depp, before he convinced himself he was some type of real-life vampire or whatever the hell his shtick is supposed to be these days.

I love old school films, I don't get why so many people when they are thinking of what film to watch only consider movies from the last few years while as cinema has been around for over a century. A film takes me to another world, if it's also another era's understanding of another world, then that's twice removed from reality and I love that.

Some favorite old school escapist films in no particular order:

  • Where Eagles Dare
  • Bridge on the River Kwai
  • The Longest Day
  • Guns of Navarone
  • Flight of the Phoenix (original)
