GF wants me to register a business, under my name, for her?

Hi so I’m in a bit of an awkward situation, Im a full time employee at a bank and have an international GF. I love her a lot but she has 0 patience and she can be very aggressive and pressuring at times to get her way. This is just background to her personality.

recently she’s told me she wants to start a business but she wants me to register it all under my name, because she doesn’t want to risk anything with her VISA application etc..

I’m not really sure what to do? Or what the implications are of this? According to Google it’s fine for me to put it under my name from a legal standpoint so technically yes I can do it but.. could this cause any issues for my employment, my taxes? My future career applications for background checks?

Is it a big deal if I do it? Or is it no big deal and I’m overreacting?

How long have you been dating? Sounds pretty insane and leaves you open to a lot of lability in my mind especially with you saying she can be manipulative. What if she opens this business and takes out a ton of debt/doesn't it pay it back or there's a cash flow issue and you owe vendors? Seems like it's all on you. When I first read this it seemed like her chance to try this business with no risk and if it fails oh well, especially given the VISA issue.

Why would trying to open a business hurt your chances at a VISA, I would think that improves it and shows you would be looking to be productive. I would not do this under any circumstances.

how exactly would this affect her visa? this smells utterly bullshit. i think on the contrary, opening a business may even help her show entrepreneurial spirit helping with the visa

but that's still am exaggeration, because that has no impact whatsoever on her visa

dig deeper and find a more plausible why; maybe she is risk-averse and is afraid of the liability? despite her sounding naive, you never know what bullshit TikTok advice those women hear from other boss b*tches on social media and then mask it to you to not come up with the real reason lol

I would be careful with this. My mother worked in embassies all her life and has done many visa interviews. Your gf starting a business in her name probably wouldn’t raise any eyebrows but having some weird story about why the business she runs is registered in your name could raise suspicion. Do things the right way and push back if she’s pressuring you. Also - your bank probably has a policy concerning outside business activities.

I briefly dated an international student back in college. Beautiful Chinese model and amateur golfer. Broke things off when she offered me 50,000 cash to marry her for a visa. My advice is don’t commit fraud for some gyat.

It won’t stop with that ask.  Next, bank accounts, tax returns, etc.

There are a lot of implications that only lawyers and tax accountants can explain. However, if you're looking for a way to politely decline, I would consult your bank's compliance manual. Since banks are always under regulatory scrutiny, the bank's compliance manual will highlight and prevent any conflicts (e.g., you likely cannot purchase individual company stocks). Even if it is not explicitly stated, a broad interpretation of the compliance terms will likely prevent you from starting a business while employed, especially with a foreign national that would need some type of work visa (and that's another can of worms).
