Help finding a boutique IB
Hey guys, I am a rising sophomore in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I am trying to finding an internship at a boutique IB firm for this upcoming fall but am not having any luck. Do you guys think it's too late to find such an internship and how would I go about inquiring about one on such a short timeline. Thanks in advance.

Hook'Em?
Nope, pony up.
Respectable, I almost went there (went to McCombs instead). I generally tell people there are three main areas you can find an internship this year - Search Funds, Boutique IB, and PE Shops. Also, I don't believe it's too late. I found an internship a month into the semester once.
What strategies are you using for finding an internship as of right now?
As of right now I'm applying through my school's career database and have been networking a bit with alumni at local boutiques. I'm starting to wonder if a better strategy would be to just cold email a bunch of different firms and straight up inquire about internships for this fall.
Honestly that’s the move it’s how I got my internship. Pure numbers game.
Who do you send the cold emails to if it's a smaller firm with no HR? A higher-up alum (if there is one)?
This depends on the size of the firm, but alumni are always better.
Search funds are 1-2 people in the firm so those don't matter
LMM PE shops start with analysts/associates and move up the pole
IB - Same thing as above
With boutique firms, who you reach out to matters less than BB/EB/MM firms, as they recruiting processes are much less formal.
As the other person said above, pure numbers game. Once you can get a legit email address, shoot away emails and go to the next boutique.
Yeah, in my experience the career database is only useful for juniors or sophomores with the most competitive resumes. I would start cold emailing companies in the area that you are interested in. Make sure to your horizons broad because your hit-rate when looking for internships is likely to be pretty low.
LinkedIn is probably the best way to go about finding companies that are open to hiring interns. Just be ready to stalk the profiles of people in your area.
It's the opposite, way too early. I've talked to boutiques in my state and they all don't start recruiting till fucking October. One even said February.
