Learning stuff already in degree

This sounds strange, so bare with me.

I’m going to be studying Maths with Data Science at the LSE next year. I know, not a traditional LSE subject at all.

I’m on a gap year at the moment, and have done a bunch of python for trading algorithms etc. Upon looking at the modules in my uni course, a lot of the topics seem pretty easy in the sense that I’ve already covered them. For example, one module is pretty much just introduction to Data Analysis with Python with NumPy/Pandas etc.

I feel like I’m wasting time re-learning stuff I already know. At the same time, knowing this stuff early is bound to be helpful when showing off projects for internships etc.

It feels like I could learn pretty much everything in my course online, and I don’t really get the ‘prestige’ of a strong STEM university (as the LSE is more social sciency).

Anyone had any experience with a similar situation? What worthwhile things can I do during this time?

I know, not a traditional LSE subject at all.How is maths with data science not a traditional LSE subject? A non-traditional subject with be things like anthropology, environmental studies etc which LSE offers as self-contained degrees lol.Reframe your thinking. Instead of thinking you're wasting your time relearning things in your degree, appreciate that you've already had a strong foundation so you can shoot for much higher marks in your uni modules. You could also spend your time in lectures asking professors about advanced off-topic 'reflective' questions, instead of always catching up and falling behind. Uni is intense so having already covered some material is very beneficial - falling behind is depressing.

And if you dont mind sharing - why did you choose to study maths at lse instead of Imp or Oxbridge? Just for IB placement perhaps?
