Is posting accepting an academic internship e.g "Looking forward to be joining XYZ firm as a XYZ intern for the next academic year" stupid. It's incentivized by firm.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, opinions on posting about internships on LinkedIn are divided, but there are some key takeaways:
Incentivized by the Firm: If the firm encourages or incentivizes you to post about your internship, it can be a valid reason to do so. Some companies use these posts as part of their branding and recruitment strategy, so it aligns with their goals.
Professionalism and Tone: If you decide to post, keep it professional and concise. Avoid over-the-top announcements or grandstanding. A simple, straightforward post like "Excited to join XYZ firm as a [position] for the upcoming academic year" is generally acceptable.
Industry Perception: While some professionals view such posts as "cringe" or unnecessary self-promotion, others acknowledge that it can help with networking and visibility. For example, having "Incoming [Position]" in your headline or profile can make it easier for recruiters or peers to find you.
Risks and Caution: Be mindful of potential risks. As highlighted in WSO threads, uncertainties like failing to meet GPA requirements, background checks, or even company issues (e.g., layoffs or rescinded offers) could make such posts premature. Waiting until you start the role might be a safer approach.
Alternative Approach: Instead of a public post, consider informing your close network or mentors personally. This can achieve the same goal of sharing your accomplishment without risking negative perceptions.
In summary, if the firm incentivizes it and you keep the tone professional, it’s not inherently "stupid." However, weigh the potential benefits against the risks and industry norms before posting.

I wouldn't say it's dumb at all if it's done the right way. Just keep the text part short and sweet. It only becomes obnoxious when people write multiple paragraphs about accepting an internship. Something like "I'm excited to announce I've accepted an offer from XYZ firm for 2026 and am looking forward to starting". And then maybe thank 1-2 people if that applies.
Second what FinanceWhiz said, just don't be obnoxious about it and you'll be fine.
I've always been of the mindset to make the LinkedIn Post on your first day for internships and after probation for FT roles. If the firm is encouraging you to make a post, then follow FinanceWhiz's advice and make it short and sweet. No more than 2-3 sentences about the new role and that's that.
Posting about an academic internship on LinkedIn isn’t a bad move if the firm encourages it. Just keep it professional and short. Something like:
"Excited to join XYZ firm as a [position] for the upcoming academic year. Looking forward to learning and growing in this role!"
Avoid over-the-top announcements or excessive tagging. Some people see these posts as unnecessary flexing, but if it helps with visibility and networking, it’s worth considering. A safer move is waiting until you actually start the role.
Echo what everyone else said. I never posted on LinkedIn about getting my internship or FT job because I didn’t wanna be the stereotypical LinkedIn hardo, but a short and straightforward post isn’t too bad. I was also never incentivized, though idk what you mean by that if I’m being real
I post updates and notify my network with new roles. Easy way for people to keep tabs on me. Recently did this after an extended job search instead of individually notifying the 10-20+ people who knew I was searching (honestly was getting desperate / was starting considering underemployment opportunities that were entry level, didn't land a dream job or anything but a reasonably solid post MBA job given the current job market).
What incentive?
Some HR person probably nudged them to post and sent them a graphic "they can include" in their post
🚨BREAKING NEWS: I’ve just unlocked LEVEL 100 in my career! 🚨
✨ Drum roll, please… ✨
I am BEYOND excited and DEEPLY humbled to announce that I have officially secured an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime, highly-coveted Investment Banking Summer Analyst position at the legendary Alantra! 💼💥
🔥 Just a casual, low-key internship at one of the most elite, game-changing, world-renowned investment banking firms in the industry. No big deal. 🔥
You better believe I’m going to be working side by side with the titans of the financial world, where I’ll be making million-dollar deals, analyzing multi-billion-dollar transactions, and possibly sipping espresso with the finance gods (aka senior bankers, obviously). ☕💸
It’s been a long journey to get here (don’t even get me started on the applications, interviews, and insane networking), but all that hard work has finally paid off in the form of this EPIC opportunity. 🙌
The next few months are going to be wild, filled with spreadsheets, deal flows, intense due diligence, and, of course, me flexing my newfound skills on LinkedIn every chance I get. 💪
Huge shoutout to my mentors, family, Iñigo de Cáceres, and Google for helping me become the financial powerhouse I am today. 💼
