New Suits Episode **SPOILER ALERT**
**SPOILER ALERT**
What do you guys think about the offer from Tony Gianapolis' right hand guy to join the new firm?
Should Mike accept it?
Is it realistic for a Junior Associate at a law firm to get hired into private equity for a non-legal role in real life?
If you're talented and analytical (i.e., problem solver) people will want to hire you. I have encountered plenty of individuals in banking who worked at law firms for a few years (post-JD). People tend to hire talent (at the junior/mid level). If you have talent, you have talent. It doesn't matter what you studied at school.
I have never understood why people are so hung up on "you have to do A, B, and C in order to get D". There is always a traditional path, but there are more ways than one to achieve something. It all comes down to the individual and what he or she is good at. Moreover, people are always more willing to hire someone they are familiar (or have worked) with.
Disclaimer: I haven't watched this episode, so I have no clue what the circumstances were.
I think he should take it as he has realized that if he keeps being an lawyer, he cannot move up or be given credit for work he does. Like in the promo, Rachael mentions how he lives in fear of being caught (plenty of close calls already). Why not take the gig that is probably going to pay more and get away from a job that could ruin your professional life at a moment's notice?
gotta hurt to be in big law and be told you're in the "minor leagues" in a tv show, because you know all those hosers watch this show.
He'll stay because it'll be tough to get away from the Mike and Harvey storyline.
I got a massive boner when he did the investment bankers line again
See, I'm confused about that. I remember the first episode with Gianapolis, the right hand man (forget his name) said "we aren't lawyers, we're investment bankers. We didn't go to Harvard, we went to Wharton." But I think there were some references to their firm being a hedge fund..
It's a classic case of Holywood doesn't understand wallstreet (think about the Wallstreet movies, in particular Wallstreet II)
If we ignore what one-liners they use, I would guess that Gianapolis runs more of a PE shop based on the way they do business, since they actually care about the day-to-days of the firms they acquire.
I'd think it's more of an activist hedge fund than a PE shop since they're talking about an algorithm to find companies about to be taken over (so they can invest in them) and they previously engaged in a proxy fight to win board seats (not that PE firms can't do that). But either way, the finance lingo is definitely being mixed up.
Once a week for an hour, I consider going to law school.
How many investment bankers have created proprietary algorithms to value companies?
SPOILERS
This is gonna be great. Finally, a popular, well-made show about finance and law. Not quite banking but pe/hf I'd say. Great last few episodes.
Don't jinx it. I'd be ecstatic if they actually have season 4 be about something that's finance related, but don't hold your breath.
i really hope that mike stays in finance
the show is called "suits" so not every1 has to be a lawyer
You'd think someone as smart as Mike would've found his way into finance a lot sooner than this...
Was hoping for a spin-off.
Well, looks like WSO got what they wanted!
Also, this looks like a longterm change. The show runner said that they built an entirely new set which was a semi-substantial cost and hired a cast surrounding Mike. He'll have his own Donna next year. DAYAMMMMNNN

So... are/have any of you guys considered law school?
And did you know you don't even need an undergrad to go to law school in certain states? My buddy's a professional poker player in NJ, never went to college, and he just started law school. That's kind of wild.
Pretty much the only law schools worth the money are T14 though, and those definitely require an undergrad education...
Was just about to start a similar thread, so thanks for the set up! I have a feeling that Mike is going to have an old lady for his Donna... not cool. Also, Scottie is gone damnit. She was so hot.
