Tory Burch, so I assume you're a girl. Don't see why it should be a problem if it's just one phrase (i.e. "fit model") in the hobbies section. Maybe get someone to look over the rest of your resume? What S&T people are looking for on a resume are typically not what engineering/academic people are looking for.

I've put some weird hobbies on my resume and talked about even more questionable ones in first round interviews and made it through. Makes for interesting (and hopefully memorable) conversation as long as you read your interviewer's body language and don't go overboard.

I would list it on the resumes i submit remotely, listing it under the very bottom 'interests' section of the resume. That way, yre not making a huge deal out of it, but it could catch someone's interest. Pretty girls have an advantage in sales

Probably leave it off the resume you Bring into the interview, and let your looks speak for themselves.

If you have gained significant weight since your modeling days i would leave it off. Seriously. And make sure to look hot when you interview or they might think it is false advertising. Again, seriously.

Absolutely put that. Literally no reason not to put that, if even under the interests/hobbies/past experience section--especially if you're still looking for the interview. It's tempting to think it'd come off as superficial, but given your fig background and ivy education, I don't think it'd do anything but help. And you like fishing? I wish you were applying to be my wife

Just my opinion but I would use the "work experience" space for more relevant experience unless you've been modeling professionally for years or have very limited other work experience. If you do leave it in work experience, maybe emphasize some tangible achievement/people skills if possible. The interests/hobbies line usually at least gets scanned in my experience. Of the 15+ interviewers I've spoken to so far this semester, not one has failed to mention an unique hobby I have listed in literally the last line of my resume.

You don't have to "look hot" so much as look presentable, attractive and not ridiculous. I recently saw a chick show up with moto-inspired ankle boots paired with a very tight and very short skirt suit for example. Wear a tailored suit, an appropriate amount of makeup, reasonable heels, etc. This holds for all female interviewees though...ex model or not.

Personally I think it's a red flag. It suggests that something is off. The reason is that hot girls usually don't go into quant finance. Now I'm not saying you're not hot, you might be! although pitchers would help us give you more practical feedback (you can blur part of your face if that makes you feel more comfortable, I won't mind). But usually when I think of quants I think of Asian and Russian bros who know more math than English and they're all somehow wearing the biggest headphones that are commercially available.

All I'm getting from this girl is

-this is probably a hot girl -that attended either MIT, Caltech or Berkeley -Now attends an ivy (guessing Columbia, worst case Cornell) -has an engineering major -Is probably a sophmore or junior

Honestly I think you are fine, just parlay OCR and you will start to get interviews.

It makes you memorable in a good way so post it. Do whatever needs to be done on the resume to make it memorably good.

I have a very vvery quantitative academic background and i am doing my masters now. Quant finance. I got full scholarhip at an engineering school (always in top 5. normally 1st or 2nd) and now i am at an ivy....

I wanna get into s&t and I only have research experience. I have one engineering internship and one consulting...

since I only have very heavy quant experience I wanted to put special experience and that is why i put my fashio model / private dj experience on my resume...

I am not a runway model, but I did a fitting model at Tory Burch, i hate their clothes but they pay super well cuz its pretty much run by J.Christopher, VC guy. Also I did quite a lot of private dj sets for thhe brand and other related parties...

And so far I have ZERO luck.

I started to believe that my resume isnt the type S&T ppl like or it is just simly wrong to put such experience....bc other than that, my academic background, experience and even tons of research paper (3 in engineering 2 in economics and 1 in philosophy...) should be appealing to ppl in s&t, no? I also completed half marathons and play many sports.

I am really reallly serious and got unbelievably depressed these days.....I thought I am on not too bad track, but hearing my friends (who obviously didnt get even full scholarship nor do any sports) got interviews just makes me want to just go disappear. Seriously.. The only reason why I am still alive these days is because I am not brave enough to actually disappear.

I have no clue why I dont get a single interview offer. Seriously.

So if you were a HR person, what would you think? And anyone works in S&T, what would be your reaction at first only looking at my resume?

Honestly, don't put it. What would it contribute to your current job? Also, as S&T is pretty male dominated, it isnt something most males would find a common interest in. I doubt you'd get an interviewer who you could discuss this interest with as opposed to discussing a sport.

If I saw this when I was interviewing this year, I'd probably just overlook it if the experience and stats are good (as yours seem to be) but I definitely know guys who would get a negative image or even ding for it.

I understand your focus is S&T or for a lack of better words, trading. There are many other quant finance positions available at a bank. Have you ever considered derivatives pricing, risk management or quant developing? One thing you should do to better source your chances is to research the S&T departments at banks. For instance, S&T at Credit Suisse is predominately quant finance related. But there are many departments where you're essentially over qualified and little math/comp sci is required.

My recommendation is to network as much as possible. What most people don't realize is that it is no longer 2006. What I mean by that is that there's a pool of experienced people, some of whom had considerable success in banking. In 2006, 90%+ of interns received full-time positions, that number has dropped to about 30-50%. Don't be discouraged by how competitive the environment is. Just keep on applying.

Personally, I wouldn't list all of your modeling jobs. It seems like you've picked up on some side work if you're only getting paid $100 for 2 hours. But if you do list it, I would put it under extra curricular activities. That way, you can simply say, you've done some modeling but haven't necessarily done anything extraordinary such as covers for well known magazines. Not to say that landing the jobs you've landed isn't impressive. It is just that you don't want to gloat or make it seem like you've achieved greatness by listing it.

Think about it for a second. There will be many students listing CEO of Company X but when they're revenues are less than $30,000 per year. Is it really noteworthy? I guess the rule of thumb is not to gloat about something unless it is really an extraordinary achievement.

Judging from your english here, your resume is probably failing because you have a ton of mistakes - spelling, formatting, wording, etc.

This sounds awful. Not everyone can be a BB trader. But it's not the end of the world. In fact, to be honest, your personality doesn't even sound fit to be a securities trader. You sound like a weak person, irregardless of your sports, research, modelling and obvious high intelligence.

For your own employment prospects- broaden your search. Consider a career in risk management. It's probably a better fit.

You're right. Don't listen to some of these guys. Looking "hot" can work against you if it's obvious. e.g. showing cleavage, a skirt, heels. The reason is that most guys on the other side aren't the idiots that post on this site. They're more concerned about the appearance of improprieties than the possibility of getting laid. Rather, look as professional as possible. Let your good looks work on a subconscious level.

Are you an international? Are you authorized to work in the U.S.? If not, that could be the reason you're getting dinged.

We did made any offer to a Sales Assistant that had Fashion Modeling on his resume. He told us he was an underwear model. Of course, we hired him on the sales side and not trading. It's likely a good story to talk to clients about and works great for sales people.

What really strikes me about the OP is that the way it is written seems very contradictory to the educational background this person claims to have. This is either

1) This is a troll (blumie resurrection) 2) Someone who is telling the truth and is VERY smart book wise but has absolutely no idea how to convey themselves maturely.

This person said they have read this site for a while and is posting under a new name so they should have a good feel for the community. I think everyone fell because is a chick and thus fell for Blumie resurrected, this is his style. From the buffoonery of the topic all the way to the writing style.
