Scholars of Finance helpful for IB?

Is there anyone who is of member of this organization that can shed some light on how investment banks view it?

Seems very established, having chapters across all Ivys except for Cornell.

Recently got involved with the orgs new chapter at my school. Honestly impossible to tell simply because it's only existed for 2 years - so chances are most current analysts/associates have never heard of it. But judging from how insanely fast they've grown since then (>15 new chapters just this year, mostly target and top semi target) and the people they have on their advisory board, I'd be willing to bet it'll prove to be a helpful network to be a part of either way. They have official partnerships with GS, KKR, and Blackstone (latter 2 just in the past few weeks) and a bunch of c suite execs across VC, PE etc involved in some way. I already signed my SA offer before joining so it won't help me with IB, but I'd say theres a good chance that trading a small chunk of your time every week for that network will come in handy for buyside recruiting and beyond

Personally, I believe joining SoF will be very helpful to you. They are working with a large number of top IBs and it’s a fantastic networking opportunity. Students involved in SoF definitely stand out. Great addition to any resume.

Currently a president of a newer SoF chapter so I can shed some light. I believe that SoF is a great org not only for recruiting but also because at their core the mission makes sense. I personally didn't use SoF when recruiting because we didn't have it yet but I am heading to a top BB and will be looking to help other SoF candidates in the future. The network is also great as it spans across most top universities across the US and many older students are heading to IB roles.I can see how in a few years SoF would have a strong recruiting presence as it is developing partnerships with a few big firms (MS/GS).

I was a cofounder of my school’s chapter about a year ago and am still involved heavily in the chapter. Personally, I’ve had a great experience— it’s a great community, and the National team is constantly looking for ways to incorporate feedback to help members succeed. I think the key thing to understand, though, is that SOF alone will not help you get into IB. It is not like SEO or MLT where you get the training and they help get you an internship/job. SOF’s programming focuses on building values-based leaders. To be fair, they do have all the resources (interview guides, technical overviews, etc.) to get you started, but it will be up to you to take advantage of it. But, again, the community is great, and there will always be many people willing to help you.

Someone posted above about the partnerships with BX, KKR, GS, etc., and I do feel obligated to say that those will not help you land a job in any way (at least in the current state). SOF’s opportunities forum will basically just route you to their respective careers website. I have no clue what the partnerships even entail— as members, the only tangible benefit we’ve seen is that the Northeast symposium is going to be at KKR’s headquarters. As far as I know, the only “exclusive” relationships that SOF has are with Piper Sandler and US Bank.

If you’re just in it for the resume booster and to help get a job, it’s not worth your time. But if you want to explore the community and better understand what it means to be a leader, I wouldn’t hesitate to apply and learn more!
