Smart Things I Thought of Today

1. Physics is applied mathematics

2. Chemistry is applied physics

3. Biology is applied chemistry

4. Psychology is applied philosophy

5. Computer science is applied mathematics

6. Finance is applied economics

7. Economics is applied public policy

8. Public policy is applied philosophy

9. Law is applied philosophy

10. Economics is applied mathematics

11. Statistics is applied mathematics

So everything goes back to Philosophy and Mathematics, the two building blocks of higher education.

Or you realize that you couldn’t think about philosophy without chemistry and biology. You couldn’t exist without a bunch of physical constants (strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, etc.) being exactly what they are. It’s far from clear to me which piece of learning is most rudimentary or essential.

Additionally, anything that philosophy can decide can be decided using logic circuits (ands, ors, nots, nors, etc.). These can be encoded using mathematics or physics, because it’s just computation at that point.

To maybe backtrack on what I said earlier, I think physics is probably king here. What is substance? Of what substance do you consist? Why are you even able to think in the first place? How can you even come up with an idea like philosophy in the first place? That’s a matter of physics.

A lot of things are indeed mathematics, but as a math major, I guarantee you most people you encounter in your life don't understand mathematical thinking. If you talk about math in a way that makes it more life-friendly, that'd be helpful.

Persistency is Key
