What are your hobbies? Any ones that you're hard rec to someone looking for a new one?
Fellas, I'm looking to add a new hobby but not sure what to add. Currently my regular hobbies are:
-
Reading
-
Lifting
-
Golf
-
Travel
-
Video Games
Curious to hear what all of your hobbies are. How has this changed as you've gotten older? Question is open to everyone but really especially curious re those in their late 20s and early-mid 30s
Any hard recs? I've considered adding a musical instrument on and off (played multiple when I was younger), but would honestly prefer an hobby with a more social element to it
Those are good hobbies, I'd probably add either a) one more outdoorsy hobby or b) maybe a musical instrument
Yeah I'm leaning against the instrument as it's more a solo hobby but would consider something outdoorsy. Tried hiking, which is fun every once in a while but I don't have the real love for it that some others do
Not really into marathon / triathlon / biking type stuff either. So just wondering what's left. If I was right next to the water in a place like FL / CA, would love to do scuba but that's not in the cards right now
Man it's hard to add hobbies when you're working as the opportunity costs are higher, adding them when you're young is much easier as you can maintain it as you grow older
Know some folks who are taking up IM sports. Though those are more 'social activities' vs. hobbies that you'll continue 5yrs later. I'd personally want a hobby I can maintain for my whole life (not that you will necessarily, but plan for it as it's really rewarding getting better and better with time)
I’m either working, lifting, playing warzone, or walking outside listening to an audiobook.
I understand skin cancer is a danger, but I find myself just feeling better when I’m outside as much as possible. Put some sunscreen on and go walk a few miles.
I’ll watch Netflix every now and then, and I’ll go visit family members on the weekend.
Those are solid choices man, any interest in going the Isaiah route and getting more into marathon / more intense competition? Tbh I can totally see you doing that
love the seeing fam part, fam is everything. I make it out to see my folks once a quarter or so for multiple weeks at a time. Nice to also see friends in the area too
Yes, I’d like to run a marathon. Coworker recently did one and as douchey as this may sound, I was like “I need to run one so I can still be the athletic dude in the office”.
I’m working on getting as shredded as possible as I have a wedding of someone close to me that’s scheduled for next year and want to absolutely flex on everyone as I’ll be seeing people I haven’t seen in forever. Also am still working on my goal of 170lbs at 6’2”.
Doing an iron man would be nice to have on my list of accomplishments. Right now the goal is to cut down to 170lbs and see what I look like.
Other physical goals I’d like to accomplish just to have done it are a 700lb deadlift. Not happening anytime soon.
Skiing, Tennis, Kayaking
Take up boxing. Great workout, gives off the tough guy appeal, and it may save your life when someone rolls up to jack you.
Not a bad idea at all, just wary of head injuries working in my profession. If I was a sales guy -- no offense to sales guys -- I'd take up boxing or muay thai in a heartbeat
I mentioned a while back I was training to have a professional boxing match - didn’t pan out, but I’ve found shadow boxing to be a solid workout. I also have a heavy bag in my gym and will do a round or so on it every now and then but I don’t like having other people watch me.
Do BJJ instead. Better than boxing because you can actually spar/roll with other people and give it 100% whereas as you mentioned with boxing you can't really spar without risking CTE.
I'd argue it's more fun and better for self defense also.
In Muay Thai pad work, you don’t get hit in the head at all. You can opt not to do sparring and just focus on pads and bag work.
Yeah I just started boxing recently - love it
Nice. It is a very technical sport.
Tropical fish tank/aquarium keeping. I find it really interesting and it becomes more of an art when you get into aquascaping.
Caveat is ideally you are not going to move around a lot as moving tanks is a pain.
What's your geography? Have you considered paragliding or paramotoring?
Have you considered volunteering? It may sound whack but it's a good hobby if it floats your boat. Very social
You paramotor? It’s a lot of fun if you have a nice open area. Too bad NYC isn’t that.
Nice
If you’re into cars you can try racing. It’s expensive but there are cheaper options out there. You can also try sim racing, of course it’s not driving but still very satisfying once you get good on iracing or whichever sim you use. Sim racing is a lot cheaper, you don’t need a pc either if you have ps/Xbox (PC is best of course).
