Maybe maybe not

In some ways it shows a lack of discipline. It certainly is better to have a good physical appearance especially in a sales role

But if they are really well qualified then why not .. especially as an analyst when they are just crunching numbers

Btw I am 285 pounds (up 100 from my regular weight)  due to medication. I would certainly appreciate if people gave me the benefit of the doubt in my interviews; not all do

I got injured and it ruined my whole routine; I also had to quit my job. I was consistently a normal weight my whole life and thought once my injury healed I would get better and just lost the weight. Unfortunately, my injury became permanent and I've only recently developed a new routine after gaining like 100lbs. I'm currently losing the weight but seriously nervous that people will not hire a fat person.

Thinking to like create a Strava and track my progress to show prospective employers I'm dedicated but also think they won't care / will think I'm just a weirdo.

Would not bring up Strava in an interview like that. You should eat less and drink less (alc or sugary drinks) and lose the weight. Adding that much weight from an injury is all on you, gotta make some changes man. I am rooting for you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, weight or physical appearance should not be a determining factor in hiring decisions, especially if the candidate is highly qualified and fits well into the team. The focus should be on their skills, experience, and ability to contribute value to the organization.

In fact, there’s a compelling story shared on WSO about someone who weighed 280 pounds, had a 2.5 GPA from a non-target school, and still managed to turn their life around, lose weight, and secure interviews with top firms like McKinsey. This highlights that determination, qualifications, and cultural fit are far more important than physical attributes.

Ultimately, hiring decisions should prioritize merit and team dynamics over superficial factors.

Discrimination in the work place exists but I would not put this as an attribute that most people are not going to care all that much about.  I think it is kind of low on the list of being vulnerable to discrimination.

100% depends how tall they are

300lbs is pushing the limit either way, but it depends on far more factors than simply weight. Body composition, stature, and most importantly, grooming, are far more important.

I'll take a fat dude who knows how to dress, keeps his hair and beard tidy, doesn't smell bad, and isn't annoying to be around over a fit guy who is a piece of shit any day.

It depends if your company offers lunch to employees. If they do, run a cost benefit and keep in mind these expenses are tax-deductable

Depends what you want to do and what you’re doing.

If you’re a rainmaker, it doesn’t matter. I know some fat traders with fatter PnLs. I know fat bankers with fatter Rolodexes.

When I helped out on campus recruiting years back, I had an MD who thought fat people were lazy and then another who felt fat people stayed at the office longer and it was like cauliflower ear for fighters.

Private capital + hedge funds, I don’t see it too much outside of some marquee examples.

Really comes down to who is hiring.
